    Chapter 616 Mate''s Dilemma

    *Zander*

I couldn''t believe she was in my arms, and the spark that ignited confirmed what my heart and Lyon- had been screaming all along: she was my mate. My mate. She was so close, I could almost hear the rhythm of her heartbeat. The way she shivered and gasped my touch only cemented the truth-she felt it too. The spark. The undeniable pull between us. Only mates could react this way to a single touch. But confusion clouded my mind. If she was truly my mate, then what was Avery? Why had I married her? Now, here was this woman, the queen of this realm, ruling not just her people but also my heart. Yet, I didn''t even know her name because she hadn''t told me. And to top it off, she dropped another bombshell -we were married, a fact I had no memory of. She sounded annoyed that I had forgotten her, which only made things worse.

How could this be possible? No one had ever mentioned I''d been married twice. Sure, maybe I had forgotten, but was it really possible that everyone else my family, my pack-had also forgotten her? Everyone only remembered Avery as my wife.

This whole situation was maddening, and this mysterious woman now seemed even more enigmatic. What in the hell was going on?

"Married or not, it doesn''t matter if you forgot so easily," she murmured, her voiceced with disappointment. There it was again-the same thing she kept repeating. What reaction was she expecting from me? Constantly pushing my buttons, reminding me of a past I couldn''t recall as if I''d chosen to forget her.

"Then enlighten my memory," I said, my voice carrying a challenging edge.

I stood firm, waiting for her to do something-anything. I''d heard tales about the residents of the Lunar Realm, their magic, their ability to weave illusions and manipte the very air around them. But now, more than ever, I needed rity.

Was she real? Was this all an borate game to y with my mind? Or was there truth buried beneath theyers of mystery she refused to unveil?

"Alpha Zander, please let me go," she whispered, her voice breathless, matching the way I felt holding her in my arms. Every fiber of my being screamed at me to lose control, to show her what it meant to have an Alpha mate.

"If someonees, you''ll be in great trouble," she warned, though her resolve was clearly weakening with each passing second, her eyes betraying her hesitation.

"Who would dare trouble the Queen''s mate?" I murmured, cupping her face gently in my hand. My gaze fell to her lips-soft, red, so plump and tempting. I licked my own lips unconsciously as I leaned in, unable to hold back anymore. I had to taste what was mine.

I was further encouraged when she didn''t resist. Her eyes fluttered shut, her soft lips parting as a sigh escaped, brushing warmly against my lips. She wanted this too-I could feel it.

But just as my lips were about to meet hers, the door suddenly burst open. The high priestess stormed in with guards, their urgent steps echoing ominously through the floor.

"Leave our queen, Alpha Zander!" she bellowed, her once soft and calm voice nowced with authority and a harsh, threatening edge.

"I won''t. She is my mate," I growled, refusing to release the queen.

"Leave me, please. Don''t create a scene," she whispered, her voice soft yet trembling.

My heart clenched at her words, confusion furrowing my brows. Why was she afraid of anyone? She was the queen-she had authority Why was she allowing the high priestess to dictate her fate?

"If you don''t want a scene here, then tell them to leave us alone and respect our privacy, mate," I argued, my voiceced with frustration.

"She is not your mate, Alpha King," the high priestess proimed firmly, her tone unyielding. "She is our goddess and cannot be mated to you. Only a god can be her match."

"Is that true, mate?" My eyes bore into hers, searching for answers. "You don''t want me because I''m only an alpha and not a damn god?"

Her sigh was heavy, her gaze pleading as she whispered softly, "Will you please release me so I can answer you, Alpha?"

I exhaled sharply, trying to calm the

boiling anger threatening to erupt. Reluctantly, I loosened my arms around her, and she slowly stepped back. My body ached to pull her back into my embrace, to feet her warmth once more.

"Mother," she said softly as she turned to the high priestess. So, the high priestess was her mother. It made sense now, why she had such control over her.

"Let Alpha Zander go," my mate said with authority. "Escort him back to his realm. We have no need for any further conflict here."

"No, I won''t leave without you," I growled, my Alpha tone echoing through the chamber.

"She cannot go with you, Alpha King," the high priestess snapped, her expression hardening with frustration. "She is our queen, and she will not abandon her people."

"She is my mate," I countered, my voice filled with the authority of an Alpha King. "And she will live with me.''

"She is not yours," the high priestess dered sharply. "Queen Selena is betrothed to the God of Destruction, and they will be married soon."

Her words hit me like a death blow.

It felt as though someone had

ripped my heart from my chest and smashed it to pieces before my eyes. Hturned to my mate, my gaze pleading, full of pain and longing. But the moment she averted her eyes, I had my answer.
