《Ultimate Rooster Evolution》
1. I Woke Up as a Rooster
Waking up in the middle of a dense grass field, Ryan felt confused. Why was he here? He should¡¯ve been in the middle of his marriage ceremony. His mind was still hazy, but he tried to remember what happened.
If he wasn¡¯t wrong, Ryan had gone through every ceremony procedure but one. He and his girlfriend stood on the stage to perform the last ceremony, tearing apart a whole grilled chicken together.
It was a weird tradition in his place, but he thought it would be fun. Ryan held the chicken¡¯s left foot while she held the right side. He looked at her smile first, and he felt so lucky to be alive.
His girlfriend was so pretty in her white dress. Flower patterns adorned her long, brunette hair. They had been together since they were still high school students. After tearing the grilled chicken, Ryan finally could call her ¡®my wife¡¯, and there they went.
¡®Crack¡¯
They tore the chicken apart, and the sound was loud that everyone could hear it. Ryan jumped in his mind, and he took a long jump to her side in reality, too. He was about to carry her, but he realized she looked up to the sky, and everyone did the same thing.
Feeling curious, Ryan looked up too, and the sight astonished him. A hand tore apart the air like someone opened a snack package. The roof of the building vanished just like that. They stared at the black sky and a gigantic hand that was filled with stars.
Ryan wanted to move, but he couldn¡¯t move after looking at that hand as if the hand had hypnotized him. The hand trampled the world, and he suddenly couldn¡¯t think of anything.
Back to the present, Ryan suddenly felt weak. What about others? His friends, his parents, and his wife? Did they survive? He wanted to meet them.
His heart felt heavy, and Ryan touched his face. However, to his surprise, his hands had become wings. Then he looked at his figure.
The current Ryan had a pair of greenish black wings, long tails, a red crest on his head, and beak for the mouth. It was a very familiar figure for him. He tore this creature apart in his marriage ceremony. His form was none other than a rooster.
¡°What the hell!¡± Ryan cursed, but the word that came out of his beak was a crowing. It surprised him, and he tried talking again, but the word that came out was still a crowing.
He crowed and stamped the ground to vent his anger. The world was so cruel. Why would have these all happened on his wedding day? He couldn¡¯t even call her ¡®my wife¡¯ for the first time! This situation was unfair.
¡°No, the world isn¡¯t to blame. It was that giant hand¡¯s fault. I swear I will take a revenge!¡±
As he cursed and swore in crowing, the ground suddenly shook. Ryan stopped stomping the ground. He couldn¡¯t believe his foot could produce that much of sound. He lifted his foot and stomped the ground, and it shook again.
¡°Wow, I did that. I am strong. Does that mean I can become stronger? Haha.¡±
A blue screen appeared before him when he mentioned ¡®stronger¡¯. The texts were alien to him, but he could understand it somehow.
Welcome to another world, Otherworlder #3245679801. First, find a safe place.
The First and the Last Quest From the Primordial Will.
Objective: Find a safe place.
Reward: a complete guide to become stronger; an innate ability.
Time remaining: 1 minute.
Ryan sensed the urgency in the quest that it affected him too. He was about to observe his surrounding when a giant drop of water fell to his head. He realized there''s shade on the ground, so he thought it was raining, but all his feathers stood up in surprise when he looked up.
Behind him, a giant creature stood on its chicken-like feet. Its red skin was thick and seamless. Its head resembled that of a humanoid demon with a pair of bull-like horns, but what made it look terrifying was that it had another head that resembled a dog on its groin.
The dog stared at him and drooled. Ryan realized what had rained on his head before. Without further ado, he started running with all his might.
The grass around was taller than he was, and he thought that it would well hide him, but the weird creature chased him, even if he changed his direction.
As he kept moving his feet at full speed, his despair grew because the creature got closer. If only he could move faster. As he thought of that, the blue screen appeared again in front of him.
Innate Abilities (Otherworldly Jungle Rooster)
- [System Window]
- [Inventory]
- [Rocket Kick]
Ryan played some RPG so he could somewhat guess what [System Window] and the [Inventory] were, so he clicked [Rocket Kick].
[Rocket Kick]
Rank: Mortal (00%)
Usage: Active
Creating big impact from the user¡¯s feet.
This skill was useful in this situation. However, he didn¡¯t know how to use a skill, so he tried randomly. Luckily, he was right on the first try when he crowed the skill, ¡°Cuckookaroo (Rocket Kick)!¡±This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
Ryan imagined the skill manifesting from his feet and it came true. Shockwaves appeared from his feet, launching him into the air like a rocket. He crowed in fear because he couldn¡¯t control this skill yet. He flapped, but sadly a chicken couldn¡¯t fly.
From the sky, he could see the place clearly. It was a vast field containing various gigantic monsters. Far ahead, he could see a forest too. There were rocky hills in the direction where his body went to. He would die if he crashed on the rock, but the hills were full of holes. It was do or die. He aimed to enter the hole. However, his consciousness suddenly faded, and he had a hard time to breathe.
You are suffering from the mana lost fatigue because of excessive consumption of mana beyond the capacity. You will enter the torpor state in ten seconds to recover your mana.
Ryan tried to utter a word, but he couldn¡¯t. He fought hard to stay awake. At least he needed to enter the hole. He wanted to concentrate, but another message came. He couldn¡¯t see the blue screen anymore, but a sound whispered in his mind.
The quest is complete. Awarded a guide to become stronger to the user¡¯s inventory. Pick one of these abilities:
As he entered the hole, the quest suddenly finished. Normally, Ryan would be happy, but currently he cursed at the system. How could he think of his choice in his current condition? He didn¡¯t even know where this hole would lead him to. In fact, if he crashed hard surface, he would die.
He wanted to move, but he couldn¡¯t, so he left it to the fate. Ryan landed on a slimy, bouncy surface. His body rebounded to the wall, but because his body was wet, he slid down safely to the ground. He didn¡¯t know what had happened because he already fell unconscious.
¡¡.
When he regained consciousness, Ryan immediately observed his surroundings. However, everything was dark. He barely could see many gigantic pudding-like figures in front of him. He was afraid of them, but they seemed to hold no interest in him, so maybe he was fine for a while.
Ryan looked at the blue screen that hadn¡¯t disappeared. It showed several choices of abilities.
The quest is complete. Awarded a guide to become stronger to the user¡¯s inventory. Pick one of these abilities:
- Nature Meld
- Conceals oneself by becoming one with the nature, becoming invisible as one remains still.
- Gains healing factor in invisible mode.
- After breaking the invisibility by attacking, deals bonus damage to the enemy.
- Spirit Eyes
- Can see spirits and communicate with them.
- Can perceive dangers by colors.
- Can see in the absolute darkness.
- Chickening Roar
- After roaring, enemies will get taunted and come to the user. They can¡¯t counter and resist this ability.
Ryan thought about what his choice would be. He put aside the number three skill because he didn¡¯t need that to survive in his current condition. The remaining choice was the first and second skill.
The first skill was very useful. However, he remembered about the creature that chased him. It could know his position even though he hid among the grasses. He was afraid other monsters in here had the similar if not better skills to detect invisibility. His choice was the second skill.
Are you sure you want to choose Spirit Eyes? The user is a monster, so upon choosing a skill, they will have their first evolution. (Y/N)
Ryan clicked yes, and his body suddenly glowed. He cursed in his heart because he was afraid this light would attract other monsters. However, nothing came, so he was relieved.
The light disappeared, and his appearance changed. His crest became dark purple, and his feathers were light purple. Ryan was curious about his current race, so he looked at the system window.

So that was his window status. It wasn¡¯t quite like he imagined, but somehow he felt his blood boiling after seeing this thing. Who would¡¯ve thought there would be a time when he would strive to get stronger to attain his goals?
He wouldn¡¯t be slacking. There was a high chance that his friends, family, and his wife were sent to this world, and so he had to survive first.
¡°Don¡¯t die on me, everyone. Let¡¯s meet again in the future.¡±
Ryan finally looked at his surroundings. Unlike before, he could see in the dark as clear as day thanks to his Spirit Eyes. He saw the hole where he fell on the ceiling, and also the bouncy creature that accidentally saved him. It was a giant pink jelly. He could see a red pearl floating inside it. However, what took his attention the most was the screen above the creature.
[Flesh Eating Slime]
Rank: Awakened
Type: Elemental; Physical.
[HP]: 100%
[MP]: 100%
This ability allowed Ryan to see the information of others. He checked the System Window and found out it was one of its features.
He put up his guard because of the name of the creature. Not only that, it wasn¡¯t only one. There were many similar creatures around him. The ground was full of skeletons, so he thought they really ate flesh. He still didn¡¯t understand why they didn¡¯t eat him, though, so he observed them once again with his Spirit Eyes to determine whether or not they were dangerous.
[Spirit Eyes]
Rank: Mortal (00%)
Usage: Active
- Can see spirits and communicate with them.
- Can perceive dangers by colors.
- Can see in the absolute darkness.
His mana decreased to 99% from 100%. He didn¡¯t know how much it would cost, but he would use it to survive. Everything emitted light after he activated it. The ground and wall had green light, while those creatures had orange light. He guessed the ability had the same principle as traffic lights. If so, he should be wary of them because they emitted orange light.
Ryan¡¯s eyes observed the wall behind him that spread across the one-way path. It was empty and emitted green light, so he followed it. The path looked like a tunnel with a lower ceiling than the room where those slimes lived and the ground was clean from skeletons.
Once again, he didn¡¯t know why those slimes didn¡¯t harm him, but he didn¡¯t want to become like those skeletons. He had to get away from that room as soon as possible.
The tunnel was straight and long. After several minutes of walking, Ryan stopped because he encountered a creature. It was a giant rat at the size of his body. The creature emitted orange light, so he needed to be wary of it.
Ryan walked to the side, and the rat approached him cautiously. He sighed because he knew he had to fight it. This would be his first official fight in this world as a rooster.
2. Fighting for the First Time
Ryan was very nervous. When he was a human, he was a law-abiding citizen. He had experience in fighting. He was a hobbyist of various kick-focused martial arts, and he used to go to the gym regularly to stay fit, but he never fought to the death with someone.
Before, he had passed out after using Rocket Kick twice. He wondered if evolving to Spirit Rooster increased his mana capacity, but according to his attribute, his [Mana] was Mortal 0. He didn¡¯t want to push his luck, so he decided to use his Rocket Kick only once.
[Shadow Rat]
Rank: Mortal
Type: Elemental; Physical.
[HP]: 100%
[MP]: 50%
Ryan was lucky the rat¡¯s mana was only 50%, but he still didn¡¯t want to look down on it because it emitted orange light. That meant he had to stay cautious. Besides, he remembered a saying that a cornered animal was two times more dangerous.
The rat was getting closer, so Ryan spread his wings and crowed to scare it. However, it had the opposite effect. The rat¡¯s red eyes gleamed, and it became a shadow as it rushed at him.
Ryan jumped to the side, evading the rat as it crashed to the wall. Its [MP] decreased to 25%. He took an advantage to attack when the rat stopped moving.
[Rocket Kick] activated!
His right foot produced a shock wave as Ryan stomped the rat¡¯s body. The system informed him that he had triggered critical damage. The attack crushed, flattened, and killed it. Blood and gore splattered everywhere, and Ryan felt sick. Rats were disgusting in his previous life, and killing a rat as big as his body didn¡¯t help him cure his disgust.
You killed a [Shadow Rat] for the first time. It dropped resources.
The system appeared before him and whispered in his mind, too. Normally, Ryan would find it annoying, but it helped him to avert his attention.
The rat¡¯s body suddenly emitted smoke and dissipated into the air, leaving two items on the ground. They were the rat¡¯s pelt and a black ball that was like the one inside those [Red Slime]. With his [System Window], he could identify it.
[Dark Elemental Core]
Type: Elemental.
Attribute: [Mana].
Drop Rarity: Rare.
A core that exists inside every supernatural being. It grants monsters a slot ability.
It was quite amusing that the system explained items and not living creatures. Ryan wondered if the system would start giving him a description of living creatures if he killed more.
Ryan shook his head. He didn¡¯t have time to fall into random thoughts. He was in an unknown area, and he needed to find out more about this place. First, he had to do something with those items.
Ryan remembered he owned a racial ability called [Inventory]. He called the skill and two screens appeared in front of him. The first was the inventory screen, and the second was a pop-up about the guide to use inventory. He read the pop-up first to make sure nothing was wrong.
[Inventory]
Rank: Mortal (00%)
Dimension: 36 squares
Usage: Passive; touch the target to and imagine the target to store it; imagine the target to let it out.
This skill can alter the size of a target. Can store up to 36 things. Can¡¯t store living creatures.
As a man who had lived in the modern era, this ability fascinated Ryan. It was his favorite so far. Magic could do anything, even achieving more advanced things than human technology.
He touched the drops on the ground and they became light before disappearing. Those items occupied boxes in the [Inventory]. After that, he imagined letting out the [Dark Elemental Core] and it appeared out of thin air.
¡°This is awesome.¡±
After admiring his [Inventory] ability, he immediately checked his status window.

- [Mana Point]: 75/100 (75%)

So using [Rocket Kick] used up 25% of his mana. It was quite a terrifying and versatile ability. Ryan was glad he could use it up to four times in his current form.Find this and other great novels on the author''s preferred platform. Support original creators!
The problem was how he charged his [Mana Point] full again. If they really based this world on RPG, his mana would recover.
The next issue was increasing his strength. If he used the core on the ground, Ryan was sure his progress to the Awakened Rank would increase, but he didn¡¯t know whether using the core would need a long time or if it would be instant. Luckily, he had the guide to get stronger.
Ryan intended to summon the guidebook. Instead of an actual book, a screen appeared in front of him.
[Tome of Basic Knowledge]
Usage: Consumable
Gain knowledge of basic things in this world.
Do you want to consume [Tome of Basic Knowledge]? (Y/N)
Thank God he didn¡¯t have to read things. It was very convenient in this situation. He immediately said yes and the box that occupied the book disappeared. At the same time, a stream of information entered his mind.
Ryan staggered a few times and came back to normal again after a few seconds. ¡°That¡¯s quite intense.¡±
Ryan looked at the black core on the ground, and he suddenly understood the work of getting stronger in this world. To get stronger and gain new abilities, monsters had to absorb the core of other supernatural creatures. There were five types of cores: physical, elemental, technique, magic, and spirit. This core was the elemental type.
He immediately touched the core with his beak and intended to absorb it.
Do you want to absorb [Dark Elemental Core]? (Y/N)
He said yes. The core glowed and entered his body. Ryan was quite excited. His adrenaline rushed to his entire body. He puffed his chest and crowed instinctively.
You have absorbed [Dark Elemental Core]. Progression to Awakened Rank has increased to 25% (1/4) Cores.
[Dark Elemental Core]: 1/5 [Mana, No Attributes, No Attributes, No Attributes, No Attributes.
The attribute of the core is [Mana]. Your [Mana] attribute has increased.
[Mana] 1/5 Cores: [Mortal 1]
Your race is compatible with the core. You have gained the right to choose an ability instead of getting a fixed ability.
The last message surprised Ryan. He hadn¡¯t thought about the compatibility of the absorbed core with his race. Sure, one could absorb every type of core to get stronger, but if one absorbed the core compatible with their race, they could gain the right to choose more abilities. More choices were always good. Finally, he focused on the choice of abilities.
- Shadow Rush
- Attacks enemies by turning into a shadow and charging at them.
- Shadow Clones
- Creates clones that share senses with the user. The clone can use the user¡¯s abilities too, but the clone¡¯s attributes are 75% weaker.
- Darkness Chains
- Conjures chains of darkness.
- Death Aura
- Emits aura that decreases enemies¡¯ [HP] over time.
Faced with the choice, Ryan thought carefully about the most suitable ability to choose. He wanted to survive, so an ability that would increase his chances of survival was preferred. The answer was number two.
¡°I choose [Shadow Clones].¡±
You choose [Shadow Clones]. Adding [Shadow Clones] to your ability list. You can check it via [System Window].
After that, Ryan checked his first skill ever.
[Shadow Clones]
Rank: Mortal (00%)
Usage: Active
- Creates clones that share senses with the user. The clone can use the user¡¯s abilities too, but the clone¡¯s attributes are 75% weaker.
There was nothing saying it had a time limit, so he was lucky. This skill was very convenient to scout his surroundings without endangering himself. He could use it to lure enemies too and the clone could also help to attack. Without further ado, he used the ability.
[Shadow Clones] is activated!
His shadow wiggled and formed a perfect form of his body. From it, a rooster rose and stood before him. The clone before him had a black form. The weirdest thing was they really shared sense. Ryan could see his rooster form from the shadow¡¯s eyes. He averted his attention to an information screen above the shadow.
Shadow Clone #1
Race: Shadow
Type: Elemental
[HP]: 100%
[MP]: 60%
¡°So using this ability consumes 25% of my [MP]. This shadow¡¯s [MP] and [HP] capacity is like mine, but I know it is weaker than me. Shadow Clone #1, I want you to scout the surroundings.¡±
The shadow nodded and walked away. He had been activating [Spirit Eyes], so the shadow automatically used it too. Luckily, the ability only consumed 1% of [MP] and it didn¡¯t consume anymore after being activated.
Ryan rested on the ground to recover his [MP] and watched from the shadow¡¯s vision. It was still a straight tunnel ahead, and the shadow met nothing on its way. Feeling bored, he quickened his pace and caught up to the shadow. It was better than waiting because the room where slimes live had orange light.
Ryan realized his [MP] increased by 1% every one minute. 10 minutes had passed and his [MP] became 70% from 60%. Finally, the clone met another monster. It was a rat monster again. He willed the clone to run from it and lure it to his position.
Ryan rushed forward too, and he met his clone in no time. A rat monster followed behind it. He immediately activated his [Rocket Kick] and killed the rat again. This time, the rat dropped nothing and its corpse didn¡¯t disappear.
Ryan cleaned his feet against the wall grudgingly. He convinced himself that he would get used to it. After that, he ordered the clone to scout again cautiously. He didn¡¯t want to fight for a while before his [MP] restored to 100%. Luckily, after his [Mana] attribute became [Mortal 1], the cost of [Rocket Kick] decreased to 10% usage of his [MP.] His mana became 60%.
Ryan walked again while watching the shadow¡¯s vision. His shadow finally reached the end of the tunnel. It stood before a spacious area where the ceiling was so high. There were many tunnels too on the wall, and many paths were available to reach those. This area had many rocks and boulders. The shadows could see a dragon sleeping on the highest boulder.
The sight fascinated Ryan. It was the first time he saw a mighty dragon. It resembled a western dragon with four feet and a pair of wings on its back. Its scale was greenish, and it had a pair of horns.
In every fiction, dragons were mighty and powerful, so he assumed the dragon was powerful, too. Ryan ordered the clone to stay extra cautious. From its vision, he saw a group of [Shadow Rats] too. Those creatures were weak, so it made sense they were hunting in a group.
The clone ran to a pair of boulders that leaned against each other, leaving a small gap in the middle of it. Luckily, the shadow could enter it.
The inside of the gap was spacious enough to walk without restraint. There was another gap on another side, so the clone walked closer to it. In the middle of this small pathway, the clone encountered a hole that was big enough for the clone to enter.
Ryan originally wanted to ignore it, but he could hear a voice calling from the hole.
¡°Anyone? Help me!¡± said a man¡¯s voice from the hole. Ryan could hear it because he shared sense with the clone.
A human voice made him curious. He was only sending a clone, so what could go wrong? He ordered the clone to enter it and check out what was inside the hole, and the clone plunged without hesitation.
3. Old Skeleton
The clone sat as its body slid down the hole. At the end of the hole, its body landed on a pile of bones. Ryan felt sending the clone here was a mistake.
This place was like a cave, and there were many piles of bones. At the end of the cave, a giant robe-wearing skeleton sat on a throne. What made him surprised was that a robe-wearing skeleton stood and approached the clone.
¡°Sigh, another monster. It is hopeless. No one can save me,¡± the skeleton said.
¡°Waaa, the skeleton is talking!¡± the clone shouted.
The skeleton backed down and shouted, ¡°Waa, the chicken monster is talking! Wait, you can talk?¡±
¡°I can?¡± Ryan, who controlled the clone, was surprised too. He didn¡¯t think he could communicate with people using clones, too. No, something was wrong. ¡°Wait, you can understand my chicken language?¡±
¡°B!tch, who do you think I am? Wait, you can understand my language? What are you?¡±
¡°That¡¯s my line, Mr. Skeleton. What are you? I can¡¯t see your stats.¡±
¡°What did you say, Brat? Let me tell you, this daddy was an old powerhouse! Anyway, what are you?¡±
¡°Uh, I don¡¯t know. I woke up and found myself in a chicken form today.¡±
¡°Oh, wait. I think I know. You are the so-called otherworlder.¡±
¡°Otherworlder?¡±
¡°I will tell you if you get your main body here.¡±
¡°No, you are suspicious. No offense.¡±
¡°What? How dare you! What is so suspicious about me?¡± The skeleton pointed at the clone, but as if realizing something, he looked at his body and crouched on the ground. ¡°That¡¯s hurt, Bro. I was a handsome human in the past.¡±
¡°Uh, I am¡ sorry.¡±
¡°Never mind.¡±
¡°How do you end up in your current form, anyway?¡±
¡°Hmm, I guess I have to tell you about myself.¡±
Outside of the cave, Ryan finally reached the end of the tunnel. He looked around first before running to the gap between the boulders. He could see the hole and sat beside it.
Inside the hole, the skeleton talked about his life. His name was Thanatos the Snapper. He was one of ten heroes on this planet called Linx.
The ten heroes fought the demon king and won many years ago. However, before his death, the demon king exploded himself. One hero used a teleportation ability and teleported the ten heroes across the continent. The explosion destroyed a large island, and unfortunately, the heroes took the damage before they got teleported.
Thanatos was lucky his friend teleported him with his wife, the Lady of Death. She was an immortal necromancer. She could survive despite the injury she sustained from the explosion, but she saved the dying Thanatos. Thus, Thanatos lived and became a lich.
From Thanatos¡¯ story, Ryan concluded that the man was suspicious as hell. If the Lady of Death really had saved him, there was no way he would end up in his current form.
The clone stood after listening to his fake story and stepped back slowly to the hole behind.
¡°Wait, why are you backing away as if you want to leave this place?¡±
¡°Nothing, I just want to check out the outside. My main body is outside, you know.¡±
¡°Wait, I know you want to leave. Please don¡¯t leave me.¡± The skeleton crawled through the pile of bones and approached the clone. His movement was so fast that he already arrived before him and caught his feet.
¡°Please wait, I am not telling a lie. You are a clone anyway, so you can at least hear me out until the end. After that, it is your decision to believe me or not.¡±
Ryan thought that what the man said was logical, so he calmed down. However, what made him decide to hear him out was because the skeleton emitted green light from the start. He wasn¡¯t a threat at the moment.
¡°What I said was the truth, but I hid some things from you. It seems I have to reveal it all to gain your trust.¡± The skeleton changed his position to sit. ¡°She really saved me completely and healthy. I could leave whenever I wanted it. She always loved me the most, even more than our unborn child. Yeah, she was pregnant.
¡°She could save herself and our child, but she saved me. Her decision enraged part of me. When she died, our child would die too. So when she was about to die, I forced her to use the technique that used up my vitality to save our child.
¡°My wife fed my child with my vitality, and I became like this, an undead. My wife died too, but with her technique, the child in her belly would survive until the birth time. I waited for months until it was the time, and I¡ªI sliced my rotting wife¡¯s belly. It was my darkest time.
¡°After that, I held a proper funeral for my wife and I raised my half undead child alone. I was just a lich, but I was still strong. Then, I became weaker, and it was my child¡¯s turn to raise me, but one day, he went away and never came back to see me.If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
¡°I am still alive now, but I don¡¯t have the strength to survive outside here. I never held a grudge against him. I just want to leave here and see if he is still alive. I hope he is fine and well. He is half undead after all. He has a long life.
¡°So after hearing that story, do you want to help me? That was my darkest history. I told no one about it, not that I had a chance too.¡±
Outside of the hole, the real Ryan teared up. This was the first time he knew that a chicken could cry. He never had a child, but he understood love. He wanted to see his wife again, so he could relate.
Without hesitation, Ryan jumped to the hole and entered the cave. He met his clone and Thanatos. He extended his right wing to the man as if asking to shake hands.
¡°Let¡¯s go find your son together.¡±
Thanatos¡¯s body shook as he welcomed his wing. Ryan bet if he could cry he would. He didn¡¯t let go of Ryan after a long time and he laughed. ¡°I¡¯ve got you! Now, you won¡¯t escape!¡±
¡°Drop the joke, Old Man. If you don¡¯t, I will leave you here.¡±
¡°Ah, sorry.¡± Thanatos scratched his skull awkwardly. ¡°Living here is so boring. I just want to crack a joke. By the way, now that you agreed to help me, let me gift you something.¡±
Thanatos walked to his throne and looked for something behind it. He came back with a purple core. Ryan could read the information from the screen above it.
[Nether King¡¯s Core]
Type: Spirit
Attribute: [Spirit]
Rarity: Legendary
A core that is dropped from a famous demon.
It shocked Ryan to see such rarity of an item in front of him. He had absorbed a [Tome of Basic Knowledge], so he gained a better understanding of this world. There were seven item rarities in total: common, uncommon, rare, unique, myth, legendary, and immortal. However, the lowest core wasn''t common but rare rarity. Common to uncommon cores didn''t exist. The one in Thanatos¡¯s hands was legendary.
¡°The advantage of absorbing a high rarity core is you will get a stronger ability from the start. However, there is always a con behind a pro. You can¡¯t upgrade your ability until you reach a certain rank, but that¡¯s okay. I assure you the ability you will get from this core is the best of the best.¡±
¡°How do you have that core, Old Man? Didn¡¯t you say you have become weak?¡±
¡°Ah, this is not mine, but my wife. The reason behind my wife¡¯s immortality was because she had the ability to split her souls and put them inside items. As long as those items were fine, she was immortal. Well, of course, she had severed her connection with those items to heal me, otherwise, she would be alive, and this core was one of those phylacteries. Well, aren¡¯t you lucky?¡±
¡°I guess?¡±
Thanatos dropped the core on the ground and told Ryan to absorb him.
Ryan gulped and approached the core. As if scared Thanatos would change his mind, he immediately touched the core with his beak. The core emitted light and entered his body.
You have absorbed [Nether King¡¯s Core]. Progression to Awakened Rank has increased to 50% (2/4) Cores.

The attribute of the core is [Spirituality]. Your [Spirituality] attribute has increased.
[Spirituality] 1/5 Cores: [Mortal 1]

- Turn the dead into undead with lifesteal property
- Allies get lifesteal property
- Soul Shock
- Stun an opponent for one second
- Lifesteal Touch

- Summon a spirit animal. It can¡¯t attack.
¡°Old man, do you know what Morning Star means?¡±
¡°It is a rank several times higher than mortal.¡±
¡°How many times higher?¡±
¡°You don¡¯t need to know for now. I will tell you when the time comes. You are now facing ability choice, I suppose. Just pick the one with Morning Star.¡±
Ryan nodded. Other abilities didn¡¯t have the Morning Star mark. The first ability should be really strong. ¡°I choose number one.¡±
You have picked [Nether King¡¯s Aura]. [Nether King¡¯s Aura] is now available on your ability list.
[Nether King¡¯s Aura]
Rank: Morning Star (Experience is Locked)
Usage: Passive
This ability alters your mana aura. Your aura will resemble that of nether creatures.
Purple aura clad Ryan¡¯s body, and he felt brimming with power. He tried to peck the bone below him. His destructive power was still the same, but when he attacked, a purple aura spread to the bone.
¡°Your attacks contain [Nether King¡¯s Aura] now. This ability is very convenient for beginners like you,¡± Thanatos said. ¡°Now that you have agreed to help me, I want you to do a favor for me.¡±
¡°What is it, Old Man? If it is something within my capability, I will repay you.¡±
¡°My wife did something to my body. I have the ability to transfer myself to another body for once. I want you to bring me a dead human body, so I can revive myself.¡±
Ryan fell into deep thought. If he brought a dead body to him, that meant he had to kill someone. He didn¡¯t know if he could bring himself to do that. However, his current life was different. Maybe in the future, he would face the situation where he didn¡¯t have a choice but to kill humans.
¡°I accept, Old Man.¡±
¡°Good. I only accept male by the way.¡±
¡°Understandable.¡±
¡°Preferably if he is handsome and popular amongst women.¡± Thanatos realized Ryan shook his head in disappointment when he heard that. ¡°Okay, that was just a joke, but please give me a powerful body.¡±
¡°I will try to do it.¡±
¡°Also, I guess you still know little about this place and this world, so let me give you important knowledge.¡±
Thanatos pointed his index to his skull, and he pulled out a small purple ball that looked like a firefly. He made it float to Ryan. ¡°Your system should be treating this as a consumable item now. Sigh, how much I envy otherworlders with their system.¡±
Thanatos was right. Ryan could see information above the tiny orb.
Do you want to consume [Thanatos¡¯s Piece of Soul]?
Ryan didn¡¯t hesitate and let the orb enter his body. A stream of information flowed through his mind. Unlike when he first absorbed [Tome of Basic Knowledge], he could withstand this one.
¡°How do you feel?¡±
¡°I am fine,¡± Ryan said. ¡°Have you experienced a sudden stroke of fortune? In the past, my father got an inheritance from his deceased uncle. We suddenly became rich, but we didn¡¯t know what to do with our fortunes. That¡¯s how I feel right now.¡±
Thanatos laughed. ¡°I can relate. You will get used to it. Now, that you have gained new knowledge about this world and area. I want you to strengthen yourself in a suitable place for you. You can search your mind where it is located.¡±
¡°Alright, but are you fine in here?¡±
¡°What are you talking about? I have waited forever for someone to help me. Waiting a little more won¡¯t hurt me. Be strong, Lad. Then, save me.¡±
¡°Then, this isn¡¯t a goodbye, Old Man Thanatos. I will come back and fulfill my promise.¡±
Thanatos didn¡¯t have a skin to form a smile, but Ryan sure he would smile in this situation. ¡°Heh, you better be.¡±
¡°Then I will go immediately. Every time I laze around, the longer you are forced to wait.¡± Ryan and the clone turned and walked to the hole, but Ryan stopped and looked back. ¡°By the way, I haven¡¯t given you my name. My name is Ryan Alfa Edison. See you later.¡±
¡°Good luck, Young Ryan. I will tell you more about otherworlders on your next visit.¡±
