The temperature of the flame expelled by Torchic is exceptionally high. They can feel the intense heat despite standing a few meters away from it.
Rosa hurriedly backed further away after feeling a stinging pain on her skin.
Meanwhile, Edward watched the situation intently. He found that the Torchic''s level is rapidly rising through the system''s scan.
Level 9~
Level 10~
Level 11~
Finally, until level 12!
Torchic seemed to be releasing the extra energy that it couldn''t assimilate fully. Then it gradually reduced his outburst after realizing that the situation was nearly out of control.
The surrounding fire also subsided after the whole ordeal was finished.
This made them exhale in relief after nearly getting roasted alive.
"Edward, what happened to Torchic?"
Rosa looked worried.
"It should be fine. I believe it ate a precious herb and made it stronger. Furthermore, the incident likely happened because it couldn''t control the rich energy contained in that herb." If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it''s taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Edward theorized.
After Edward stated his opinion, everyone was shocked.
[Torchic was quite scary just now. I can feel the heat through the camera.]
[Yeah. The flame''s temperature must be really high just now.]
[Can wild beast become stronger after eating that herb?]
[I think Torchic must have felt that the herb is quite essential to itself.]
...
Edward was well pleased by Torchic''s rapid increase in strength.
The stronger his Pokemon is, the higher the possibility of his survival on this island.]
[Ding! Torchic''s level increased.]
[Reward: 5 points.]
Edward now has a total of 10 points, and after some thought, he decided to survey the store''s merchandise since he might not have the time to check it later when they are exploring the island.
Next, he delved deep into his consciousness and selected the store section of the system.

Edward was dazzled by various things listed in the shop.
There are even more expensive things that Edward can''t afford with his current points.
''Since my points are not enough, then I''ll get the training manual first.''
Edward made a decision and bought it immediately.
In the end, he only has a few remaining points left. It''s the first time he felt so poor in his life. Hence, he decided to collect the points as much as he could in the future.
"Edward, there seems to be someone passed out over there!"
Rosa''s voice interrupted Edward''s thoughts.
He instantly regained his senses, removed his attention from the system''s store, and looked in the direction that she pointed.
Chapter 30: Falkner
...
It is not easy to meet other participants on this huge island.
Edward inspected the area and found a person lying on the edge of the cliff.
Then, he quickly ran over to the person who fainted on the ground with the intention to aid them.
However, he was tackled to the ground before he reached the lying figure.
"Edward! Are you okay?"
Came the stressed cry of Rosa, who was following a step behind him.
"Cough!"
The strike knocked the wind out of him. After that, he struggled to stand up with the help of Rosa and searched for the culprit who ambushed him just now.
Imagine his surprise when he saw the figure of Pidgey standing guard over the fainted person.
"Chic!"
"Bree!"
Torchic and Beautifly gave out an angry cry and looked ready to avenge Edward, who was attacked by the agitated Pokemon just now.
"Cough! Stop! I''m fine, guys. Don''t attack it."
Edward managed to put a stop before the situation escalated further.
"Chic?"
"Bree?"
They turned their attention away from Pidgey and looked at Edward confusingly.
He then raised his hands to calm them down and turned to look at Pidgey, who was watching them warily.
"He is your master? We were about to help him, but you suddenly attacked us out of nowhere."
Edward explained with the aid of body language to make sure that the aggressive Pokemon understands their clear intention.
After several exchanges between the human and bird, Pidgey agreed and flew beside the man''s figure and observed them intently.
"Rosa, can you check the man and make sure he is fine?"
Edward asked Rosa, who was standing vigilantly after the altercation between them. This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.
She nodded and proceeded to check the man''s state using the emergency kit she stored in her backpack.
"Well, his name is Falkner from German, about the same age as us. Huh? Interesting. Apparently, he studied in the UK and worked as an ornithologist. No wonder he can tame this bird as his companion."
Edward looked at the information written on the man''s badge.
Each contestant needs to wear a badge with their basic information written on it for easier identification in case something adverse falls on them.
When he turned to see the man''s appearance, he couldn''t help but be stunned.
First of all, he really didn''t pay attention to the other participants when they set off.
Furthermore, everybody else was busy planning and preparing before entering the island. Who would have the time to pay attention to other people?
Falkner is one of the characters in the anime. He is also known as ''The Elegant Master of Flying Pokemon'' and a gym leader.
Once is a coincidence. Twice is a pattern. (AN: I think I got this wrong???)
He had already met Rosa, and now seeing another living character in the anime made him suspicious.
Does everybody else from the Pokemon world also exist in this parallel world?
Anyways, this guy is quite lucky they happen to pass by this area. His life might be in greater peril if they were not here.
"Edward, can you pass me some water? It appears that his body is experiencing severe dehydration."
Rosa asked Edward after confirming the cause of the man''s state.
The man must have fainted after he couldn''t find an available source of water.
Moreover, this whole valley was ruined under the onslaught of two powerful Pokemon. It looks like he was caught in the middle of a crossfire and had difficulty surviving.
"Sure, here you go."
Edward nodded and passed over his water canteen to her.
After that, she pushed Falkner''s figure upside against the tree and let the water slowly drip into his mouth.
After a few minutes, some color began to return to his pale face, and he soon gradually gained consciousness.
"How are you feeling now?"
Rosa asked worriedly.
As soon as he heard Rosa''s voice, he shed his tears in happiness.
"Thank you for helping me. I''m much better now."
"Chirp!"
Pidgey flew off the tree, landing on his shoulder, and nibbled his hair affectionately.
"Pidgey! You are safe too!"
Falkner said with tears streaming down his cheeks with great excitement.
If it weren''t for Pidgey, he might not survive when he arrived at the island. It is all thanks to his bird companion that he can avoid the terrible storm of the two behemoths that were raging before.
"Here, eat this fruit. It''ll help to recover your fatigue much faster. You too, Pidgey."
Edward held a handful of oran berries in his hands.
Oran berries work not only on Pokemons but also on humans.
Faulkner''s stomach growled, and he took the fruit from Edward''s outstretched hand embarrassedly.
"Thank you."
They rested for about an hour and a half by the canyon, and eventually, Faulkner managed to recover half of his strength to at least walk.
"Why don''t you come with us to our cabin to rest first?"
Rosa invited Falkner after seeing his feeble state.
After receiving her invitation, he stared with a dumbfounded look and said.
"You guys build a cabin?"
His mouth dropped open, and disbelief crossed his features.
But after thinking about it inside his mind again, he thought it was pretty reasonable.
He had heard of two pairs of contestants who managed to bag many rewards after completing many tasks on the mission list.
And he noticed that these two people are living quite well compared to everyone else.
"That''s right! Edward''s tamed beast is building it right now."
Rosa smiled, remembering the funny appearance of Timburr.
He thought following Edward''s team should be his best course of action for now in his weakened state.
"Thanks."
Edward didn''t have any problems with Rosa''s invitation. One more person in the group would lessen their shared workload.
"Alright, let''s head back to the camp first. We''ll explore the caves here later."
Edward said to everyone.
Chapter 31: Returning
While they were backtracking their path back to their campsite, Falkner''s condition was getting better as they left the canyon.
Pidgey and Beautifly flew in the air, being on the lookout for immediate threat. At the same time, Torchic is guarding the rear against any ambush from wild predators.
The fresh air near the periphery of the lake seems to help him refresh his spirit after his near-death encounter.
"Sorry to ask this late, but I didn''t get your names before."
"I''m Rosa, and this is Edward. We have been working together since we came to the island."
Rosa replied while pointing to Edward, who was leading the way.
At the front of the group, Edward was clearing the path amidst the overgrown vegetation, heard their conversation, and nodded in greetings.
"Edward, I''ve heard about you guys from my live stream. All of them are talking about your accomplishment. I guess many of us wouldn''t even dare to try working together with them. You''re a role model for many contestants surviving on the island."
Falkner uttered while looking at his Pidgey flying freely in the sky, reminiscing about his fated meeting with the bird Pokemon.
"By the way, you already tamed three of them?"
At first, when he tamed Pidgey as his partner, he was quite proud because he managed to do the same accomplishment as Edward did. Even many of his spectators on his live stream are rooting for his success.
It was this feeling that led him to underestimate the danger level of the island. Even his partner Pidgey nearly got implicated because of his error.
"That''s right. You already know Torchic and Beautifly. There''s another one back at the camp, Timburr."Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
Edward said, pointing at the figure of Torchic and Beautifly, respectively.
When he heard Torchic and Beautifly''s names, he felt that the name matched their personality very well.
"Timburr?"
"It''s our new companion Edward tamed last time. It stayed behind to guard our campsite. Despite its brute appearance, its personality is quite amiable.
Rosa explained with a smile.
With that being said, the three of them have reached the vicinity of the lake.
Although they didn''t explore the caves today, the journey back to the camp took almost a whole evening.
"We may not have the time to explore the caves today. Let''s rest tonight and explore them tomorrow."
Edward remarked about the time of the day.
The sun was setting below the horizon. Its glow reflected on the lake paints a dazzling color on the landscape.
Occasionally, a fish can be seen jumping out of the lake. In addition, many Pokemon are lounging and playing by the lake. All of it made a picturesque scene.
"Wow! What a beautiful place."
Falkner stared at the scenery of the lake, spellbound.
After enjoying the stunning view of the lake, they decided to stroll around the lake before heading back to the camp.
"Falkner. Did you see the beasts that were causing that massive disturbance in the canyon just now?"
Edward suddenly remembered their purpose for exploring the canyon before forgetting about it due to Falkner''s situation.
"Well, I was near the scene where the two creatures fought, but I couldn''t see it because I was focusing on finding a water source before escaping the ruckus. And I passed out after being hit by the aftermath of their attacks."
Falkner shook his head.
Although he was close to the scene, he couldn''t even get a small glimpse of their appearance.
"That''s a pity."
Edward is curious about which Pokemon were fighting before.
The three of them strolled through the woods by the lake. There were quite a few Pokemon still hiding among the trees as they hadn''t recovered from Hydreigon''s bellow.
"There are so many fruit trees here! I haven''t seen any edible plants back in the canyon. And, these wild mushrooms are edible too."
Falkner said while collecting the mushroom growing on the trees.
"You know about these things?"
Rosa asked, surprised.
"Yes, I ate this kind of food often. So, I learned to recognize all edible kinds of wild vegetation."
"That''s great! We can add these to our regular meals."
Rosa said excitedly.
Edward shook his head after listening to them talking animatedly about food.
On their way back, Edward started writing on a small note that he had taken out from his bag. It is filled with the training plan he had bought from the store while making some adjustments to it. He planned to take Pokemon for special training at night to familiarize them with their ability.
...
Soon, a log cabin appeared in their view.
Chapter 32: Timburr Attacked?
...
Timburr is seen resting on the porch of the log cabin.
It is hard to believe there''s such a house in the middle of the wilderness.
"Wow!"
Falkner and Rosa exclaimed in amazement.
And Edward was also surprised.
He didn''t expect Timburr to build the whole house by itself. In fact, it would be pretty good if it managed to build the foundation only.
It was never in his expectation that it could build it from scratch in a short span of time.
The cabin wasn''t built half-baked. They can feel Timburr''s attentiveness in the construction of the wonderfully made house.
Sure, there might be some lacking stuff such as doors, windows, chairs, etc. But, it needs only a minor fix to rectify the problem.
Best of all, the house looks firm and can last for a long time.
Everyone in the live stream is also surprised.
[I didn''t expect Timburr is such an expert builder.]
[Timburr only took a few hours to build this?]
[I can''t believe it!]
[It can do the work of 10 people on the construction site.]
...
Although the audience didn''t believe it, they could only accept the fact that Timburr indeed made this liveable log cabin in just a few hours.Enjoying the story? Show your support by reading it on the official site.
"Timburr, we are back!"
Edward shouted at the figure of Timburr sitting on the porch absent-mindedly.
Timburr noticed the figure of Edward who had returned, and stood up suddenly.
Then, out of the blue, he ran toward Edward and hugged his leg while crying loudly.
They were stupified seeing Timburr crying aggrievedly on Edward''s leg.
''Did something happen to Timburr?''
This sentence appeared on their minds wondering about Timburr.
"Does it feel sad because we left him alone?"
Rosa asked hesitantly.
"Burr!"
Timburr shook its head, then it raised its hands and showed many gestures trying to make them understand what it is saying.
After that, he grabbed the corner of Edward''s clothes and shed his tear again.
"Did somebody attack you, Timburr?"
Edward asked after recognizing Timburr''s hand gesture, although it took him quite some time to read its body language.
Moreover, he noticed a few scars on its body, telling him that Timburr was in a struggle before.
Rosa And Falkner also frowned after seeing the scars on its body.
"Don''t worry, Timburr. We''ll settle the accounts right now!"
Edward made a promise to Timburr. He was angry that somebody dared to bully his Pokemon. Furthermore, Edward is quite fond of Timburr, who is hard-working and sensible.
"Chic!"
"Bree!"
Both Torchic and Beautifly gave an affirmative cry and are gearing up for a fight after knowing what happened to their companion.
"You guys go ahead and rest first. I''m going to look for the culprit."
Edward turned towards Rosa and Falkner and said.
"Okay, but be careful out there."
Rosa replied worriedly.
Falkner nodded his head at Edward and left with Rosa towards the cabin.
His companion, Pidgey, flew in and landed at the front porch to rest after a few hours of non-stop flying.
"Alright, lead the way Timburr."
...
Edward and his three Pokemon are walking through the woods with Timburr at the front leading the way.
Meanwhile, he found no high-level Pokemon living in this area after scouting the surrounding environment using his aura sense.
The highest is probably around the early 10th level based on the feedback he received from their aura waves.
''This area should be uninhabited before being transformed by Landorus. That''s why many of the Pokemon living here are in the adolescent stage. Most of them moved into this lake after failing to compete for territory outside this region.''
Edward jotted the surrounding habitat in his mind.
He is confident that the strength of their future enemy shouldn''t be high.
After a while, they arrived in the middle of a clearing where many freshly cut tree stumps were seen.
Apparently, Timburr collected the wood from this place to build the cabin.
"Burr!"
Finally, Timburr pointed at the trees in front of it and nudged Edward in that direction.
Chapter 33: Aipom
...
His aura sense told him there were quite a few Pokemon sitting on top of the trees when he probed it.
''Aipom? And there are six of them here. It''s quite a lot.''
Edward frowned while checking the nearby area with his sense.
There might be a strong leader for this group of Aipom lurking somewhere among the trees.
But, he felt relieved after finding no sign of Ambipom in the surroundings.
"Is this the place where you were attacked before?"
Edward asked Timburr.
It nodded vehemently and hid behind Edward while clutching his pants as if it was still scared.
This made everyone in the live stream smile wryly.
[Hahaha, this guy is still scared after being bullied by someone else.]
[Yeah, Who would''ve thought this guy is such a scaredy-cat. It even challenged Torchic back then.]
[I''m more interested in the creature who made Timburr act this way.]
...
The audience begins to discuss among themselves, curious about the creature they are going against soon.
As they talked, several purple monkeys slowly climbed down from the tree, watching Edward and the three Pokemon vigilantly.
When they saw the small figure of Timburr hiding behind Edward, they laughed mockingly at them.
One of them even threw a banana peel at Timburr, making fun of them.
Suddenly, they jumped towards the tree one by one and hung on the tree branches using their dexterous tails, knowing that Edward came here to avenge Timburr.
[Is that a monkey?]
[That''s a monkey, alright. They look mischievous too.]
[Hahaha, no wonder Timburr suffers from them.]
[Yeah, you can see that they are up to no good from their expressions.]
...
It was fascinating for everyone to see this kind of familiar creature on the island.
Apart from their deft tails and fur color, they look no different from an ordinary monkey commonly seen outside the island.
Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.
Aipom is a monkey-like Pokemon with a three-fingered hand at the end of its tail. Its fur is purple, while the skin of its face, inner ears, belly, feet, and the tip of its tail are beige.
Also, its face has a cheeky smile and round, blue eyes. With its rounded ears, Aipom''s head is disproportionately large compared to its body and a cowlick atop it.
"Burr!"
Timburr shouted at the group of Aipom, then quickly hid behind Edward''s back.
"Did they bully you when you are collecting the wood here?"
Edward asked as he rubbed Timburr''s head, consoling it.
Then, it bobbed its head repeatedly, agreeing with Edward''s statement.
"Okay! Torchic! Beautifly! Let''s teach them a lesson!"
Edward nodded and let the two Pokemon attack directly.
Although it''s a bit of a letdown that Timburr didn''t manage to defeat this group of Aipom back then, Edward is still willing to protect his Pokemon.
Even, Torchic and Beautifly will not simply sit by watching their companion getting bullied like this.
"Chic!"
"Bree!"
Torchic rushed to the front while Beautifly flew above it, waiting for Edward''s command.
"Torchic use ember! Beautifly follow it with gust!"
Edward ordered his Pokemon to attack the Aipoms swinging around the trees.
At this time, Torchic''s fire breath was way stronger than in the past. The ball of fire was scorchingly hot in deep crimson color and headed towards the opponent.
Meanwhile, Beautifly flutters its wings repeatedly, creating a powerful wind following Torchic''s ember.
...
Fire Release - Wind Release: Combination Jutsu!
Blazing Wind Wild Wave!
(AN: Sorry, I was bored.)
...
The strong wind created by Beautifly helps to increase the flame''s potency on a great scale creating a powerful blast of intense fire.
Finally, all Aipoms were surrounded by the sea of fire in an instant.
Chapter 34: Training
...
Before Aipoms could react, they were already hit severely by the fireball.
At this time, they had lost their desire to resist and tried to flee in all directions.
When Timburr saw what happened to them, it got excited and began to chase those guys who were running away.
It kept hitting them with the log in its hand while shouting at their running figure.
Seeing this scene, Edward couldn''t help but smile, but he didn''t take any action to stop Timburr from getting its revenge until it was satisfied.
Through this battle, Edward was satisfied that Torchic and Beautifly were getting better at understanding his instructions.
Everyone else also enjoyed watching Edward deal with those bullies.
[The cooperation between Torchic and Beautifly is top-notch!]
[Indeed, that wind and fire combination attack was terrific.]
...
Edward kept an eye on the figure of Timburr, who was causing havoc among the fleeing Aipom in case something turned south.
Also, he didn''t have any intention to conquer one of these Aipom.
Moreover, none among them had any worthy talent.
Besides, it''s too troublesome to care for this mischievous Pokemon.
''No, thank you. Please spare me the headache.'' He thought in his heart.
Finally, Timburr returned to Edward after venting to his heart satisfaction.
While walking towards Edward tiredly, it pulled off something from the ground and mashed it with its hands.
Then after turning it into a paste-like substance, it spreads the paste on the wounds he suffered during the brawl.
It did this repeatedly until its injuries began to heal, and finally, there were only light scars left on its body.
''Healing Herb?'' Edward thought in his heart.
Curious, he picked the herb growing on the clearings and examined it with his eye.
''Huh, I didn''t expect Pokemon to know about this herb with mild healing properties. It''s too bad that I still didn''t have enough points to buy the herbal medicine manual from the store.''
Although the method Timburr used the herb is sufficient to heal some minor injuries. But, if Edward has the medicine manual, he is confident that he can make better use of this healing herb. This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
After that, he quickly collected the herb and stored them in his backpack while explaining his findings to everyone else.
[I can''t believe that the herb can heal Timburr''s injuries so fast!]
[This herb is so magical!]
[The island is full of treasures. It''s no surprise many countries want to stake a claim on it.]
...
Everyone sighed at the various wonder they had seen on the island.
Supernatural beasts, weird topography, the dense mist surrounding the island, and various magical plants.
Each of these things made everyone yearn and want to uncover the full secret of the mysterious island.
After collecting the herb, Edward didn''t rush to head back to the camp immediately.
He instructed his Pokemon to do light training to familiarize themselves with the routine training they would undertake in the future.
Then, they also had special training getting acquainted with Edward''s command during the battle. They can understand simple commands easily enough, but when it comes to advanced tactics, well, let''s just say it is not going well as he expected it to be.
It had been two hours since he left when Edward and his Pokemon finally returned to the cabin.
The smell of food wafting in the air made their stomachs growl loudly. They had forgotten about the time being busy with training.
In front of the porch, the figure of Rosa and Falkner chatting can be seen from the outside.
"I''m back," Edward called out.
"Edward! Finally, you are here. We''ve been waiting for you. Falkner is about to go out looking for you with his Pidgey."
Rosa asked impatiently after seeing the figure of Edward reaching the campsite.
"Yeah, we were waiting for you for about two hours. Were you training your partner in the jungle just now?"
Falkner nodded in agreement with Rosa while asking curiously.
"Pek!"
Even Pidgey was nodding furiously in agreement.
"Haha, I''m sorry. We were busy training in the woods after chasing out Timburr''s assailant. And we''ve forgotten about the time while we''re at it."
Edward rubbed the back of his head embarrassedly.
Although they knew from the live stream that Edward was training with his partners, they still couldn''t help but complain.
"Can you teach me how to fight with my partner, Pidgey?"
Falkner asked, his eyes shining with a hopeful light.
He knew from chatting with Rosa that Edward had been training to command his companions in battle since two days ago.
Back then, he watched Pidgey fight a wild creature once. Even though they won, it''s mostly Pidgey''s hard work while he is sitting in the back uselessly while cheering and hoping for Pidgey to win.
He also wants to contribute to the fight like Edward does with his partners.
"Yeah, I''ll teach you tomorrow when we are on the way to the caves."
Edward nodded in agreement after hearing Falkner''s request.
"Enough with the boy''s talk. Let''s eat. The food is getting cold."
Rosa put a stop to them and pushed everyone inside the cabin.
"You guys too, Beautifly I also picked some flowers outside for you."
"Chic!"
"Burr!"
"Pek!"
"Bree!"
That night, a brightly lit cabin by the lake stood beneath the moonlight. Occasionally, a sound of merry laughter can be heard from inside the house.
After a few hours, the light in the small cabin dimmed, and darkness began to take over the surroundings.
...
The next morning.
All of them woke up early and had a quick breakfast before leaving the lake once again to explore the island.
Today, they decided to explore the caves they had visited before located inside the canyon region.
...
"Haa... it''s boring. Why are there no wild creatures going out today?"
Rosa grumbled while stomping her foot walking along the river banks.
Edward and Falkner smiled wryly, watching Rosa''s antics.
They had been walking for about three hours, wanting to catch a sight of Pokemon along the way. But they haven''t seen a single beast since then.
"Look over there!"
Falkner noticed something on the far edge of the river, and then notified his companions.
The figure was gnawing something on the tree log by the river but then threw it off the river, apparently not satisfied with its work. After that, it took another log by its side and resumed its gnawing again.
''Bidoof?''
(Ow yeah, Lord Bidoof is here!)
Chapter 35: Falkners Battle
...
"Let''s take a closer look!"
Rosa said excitedly and went running towards the river, leaving them behind.
"Wait for us!"
Edward and Falkner chased after Rosa while the other Pokemon quickly followed suit.
They hid behind a rock located a few meters away from the figure and popped their heads out to get a glimpse of its appearance.
...
In front of them stood a brown, rodent-like Pokemon with four short legs sitting on a small rock by the riverside.
It has a short, dark brown snout and a small, red nose. Cream-colored markings cover its underside and surround its face with round tufts of fur on its face, ears, and tail.
In addition, it has large incisors protruding from its upper jaw, which you wouldn''t want anywhere near your body parts upon looking at the state of the gnawed logs and rocks scattered around it.
"It''s a rat!" Falkner exclaimed after seeing Bidoof''s appearance.
"No, it''s a mouse! Well, a large, plump, and fat mouse, but still a mouse!"
Rosa argued loudly.
"It is still a rat to me," Falkner muttered under his breath.
"Hey, I heard that! And it''s a mouse!"
The two argued back and forth until finally, Edward couldn''t bear it anymore and put his on their mouth, attempting to shut them up.
"Stop! It is looking at us!" Edward motioned his head toward the other direction.
The two people slowly moved their heads toward the river and were met with the unsophisticated face of Bidoof staring at them.
Apparently, it noticed the ruckus caused by Falkner and Rosa when the two were bickering between each other.
It stared at the three strange creatures never before seen that had intruded its domain unfazed.
"Hello...," Edward raised his hand and waved, appearing to be friendly.
"Wow!"
The other Pokemons also gave friendly cries imitating Edward''s awkward greeting.
After staring for a few more minutes, it determined that Edward''s group wasn''t hostile and proceeded to gnaw on the log again.
It appears to be carving something on the log without caring about anything else.
...
[Man, those teeth tho. So big!]
[Hahaha. Its face is basically saying, ''I don''t give a f***''. Leave me alone!]
[That expression... I surrender to the lord.]
( AN: Just some meme to make this quite interesting, moving on.)
Everyone in the live stream joked after seeing the rodent-like creature.Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
...
"It looks like it didn''t mind our presence here," Rosa said while sketching the picture of the Pokemon on her small notebook.
She had been doing this for all the Pokemon they had seen on the island. Notably, she finds the physiology of the island''s inhabitants unique and magical.
Besides, she might get further recognition in the academic circle if she succeeds in her new research about them.
"Yeah, let''s stop here to rest for a while," Edward said while moving towards the riverbanks a few meters away from Bidoof''s location.
After setting up a fire camp, Edward and Falkner moved towards the nearby forest to find some fresh fruits or edible plants with Torchic and Pidgey in tow.
Meanwhile, Timburr and Beautifly stayed with Rosa back at the camp to keep an eye on their belongings.
...
Edward and Falkner are walking through the woods while carrying some of their harvests in their hands.
They are quite lucky today. After a few minutes of searching, they found some maitake mushroom and oyster mushroom among the trees.
And, they found many berries growing in the woods, such as oran berry and sitrus berry, nicely filling up their fruit stock.
Suddenly, Edward noticed a few Pokemon running by their side, trying to surround them through his sense.
Raising his hand as a sign to stop Falkner from moving further, he pointed his finger at the nearby bush, where he sensed the strongest was hiding.
Falkner recognized Edward''s signal, and then, he whistled at Pidgey, who was flying above them to be aware of any hostilities.
"Come out! We know you''re there!" Edward shouted at their surroundings.
"Chee!"
"Chee!"
After a few moments, many voices can be heard from the bush. It sounds as if they are discussing something among themselves. That was when a Pokemon that resembles a chipmunk walked out of their hiding spot, followed by a few others.
''Ten Patrat. Hmm. We might be in trouble.'' Edward thought to himself.
Patrat is mostly brown with a tan stomach. It has a large pointed tooth that sticks out of its mouth.
In addition, it uses its cheek pouches to store food. Its head has a black band covering the eyes, red irises with a yellow ring, and black pupils.
Its feet are small and black with three toes and a long tail with a scruffy white tip standing up straight.
"Chee!" A Patrat, who apparently is the leader, pointed its fingers at the food Edward and Falkner are holding in their hands.
"Edward, do you think we may have intruded on their territory?" Falkner whispered in his ear.
"There''s no doubt about that. Wait for a second. I have an idea!"
A light-bulb appeared in his mind.
Next, he took out a bag of Pokemon food from his backpack and threw a few pieces in front of Patrat''s leader.
Although Edward can escape from this predicament by himself, Falkner might be left behind. And, he only had Torchic with him right now, so he is stuck in this embarrassing situation.
The leader looked curiously at the food on the ground, then he picked it up and carefully sniffed it. After that, it swallowed the whole piece in a mouthful while humming cheerfully.
"Chee!" The leader gave a cry in approval.
Noticing its affirmation, Edward threw the whole bag of food towards the Patrat leader.
"Chee!"
Then, it picked up the bag and was getting ready to leave the area with its group after the intruders had paid the toll for crossing their territory.
"Wait!" But, before they could leave, Edward stopped them.
Halting their tracks, the Patrats turned their heard in confusion after hearing Edward''s cry.
"Chee?"
After that, Edward whispered a few words into Torchic''s ear to translate for him.
Torchic nodded and went towards them, delivering Edward''s message.
"Edward? Aren''t they leaving just now? Why are you stopping them?" Falkner asked, confused about Edward''s behavior.
"Didn''t you ask me how to command a beast to fight yesterday? Well, there''s no time like now," Edward replied smilingly.
"But.." Before Falkner could utter another word, Torchic''s loud cry attracted their attention.
"Chic!" Torchic called out to Edward.
Knowing what his Pokemon had said, Edward took two more Pokemon food bags and showed them to the Patrat group.
"Chee!" The leader ordered his subordinates to clear the surrounding area. Then it called out one of its underlings and told it to fight on their behalf.
"Be calm and confident. You are on your own now. Good luck!" Edward pushed Falkner''s figure towards the clearing while he stood beside Torchic, who was rooting for them.
''Looks like a fair match,'' Edward thought in his heart, seeing their stats.

"Chic!"
"Trat!"
Sounds of cheering can be heard throughout the clearing, albeit Torchic''s cry was dampened by the other Patrat''s cheers.
''Huu.. I can do this! Come on!'' Falkner took a deep breath and shouted at the figure of Pidgey standing in front of him.
"Let''s fight together, Pidgey!"
Seeing that its partner had calmed down, Pidgey gave an affirmation in response to his soaring spirit.
"Pek!"
Chapter 36: Egg
...
Birds chirping can be heard echoing through the woods. The loud cheers had died down long ago, anticipating the battle would begin soon.
Everyone is staring at the two figures in the middle of the clearing with bated breath.
Occasionally, the wind blows through the trees rustling the leaves.
A single leaf torn by the wind flew around the surroundings before finally landing on the ground.
That was the starting point.
Both Pokemon rushed towards the middle of the field and slammed into each other until Pidgey''s body was pushed back by Patrat''s force.
It was clear to everyone that Pidgey did not have the upper hand in the contest of strength between the two Pokemon.
''This is bad. I have to think of something quick.''
"Pidgey! Go to the sky!" Falkner shouted towards the field after being flustered, seeing Pidgey struggling to hold on to Patrat''s body.
"Pek!" Following its trainer''s voice, Pidgey relaxed its frame, letting Patrat''s attack through its blockade before using it as leverage to fly in the air.
Patrat''s figure plunged on the ground after missing its hit on Pidgey. But, it nimbly rolled over and quickly stood up, not giving the enemy an opportunity for a sneak attack while observing its opponent flying in the air.
''Great! We have the advantage now,'' Falkner thought in his mind.
"Nice job Pidgey! Now, we must keep the pressure on it."
He cheered while commanding his Pokemon to attack the opponent from the sky.
Also, he mainly kept his instruction neat and straightforward because he feared that Pidgey might misunderstand his order and confuse itself.
Pidgey kept taking many sharp turns while flying in the air, trying to disorientate its enemy below.
After trying to keep up with the erratic flight of Pidgey and falling, it gave up and ran toward the surrounding trees for better cover.
Seeing this opening, Pidgey managed to land a few hits on Patrat''s running figure.
Unfortunately, it managed to hide behind a big tree, losing the opportunity to weaken its enemy further.
"It''s okay, Pidgey! Don''t fret over it. We''ll do it slow and steady."
Falkner rallied his partner''s spirit after seeing its regretful expression failing to deliver the winning blow.
...
"Huh!"
"Huh!"
A few minutes had passed, both Pokemon were nearly out of breath and at the end of their deadlock.
Although Pidgey has a slight advantage due to it flying in the air, taking less damage during their exchange, Patrat suffered more injuries despite being stronger.
"Chee..."
The other Patrats watched the ongoing battle worriedly except for their leader sitting in the front.
...
"Pokemon Speech"
"You lazy piece of shit! We still don''t know the final result. Now, get back to work! Let''s cheer for our comrade on the battlefield."
The Patrat leader scolded its underlings and urged them to cheer for their teammate.
Hearing their leader''s angry reminder, they increased the sound of their cheering to encourage their member on the field.Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
"Don''t give up, bro!"
"You can do this!"
It nodded satisfyingly after hearing its follower''s loud encouragement.
...
Back to the scene
Pidgey had just returned to the air after managing to land a direct hit on Patrat once again.
Although its feathers look a little bit ruffled with a few scars here and there due to Patrat''s quick counter during their clash, overall, it still has a lot of strength to continue the fight.
On the contrary, Patrat is in bad shape at the moment. Its body is riddled with multiple injuries after being battered by its opponent.
Still, it deserves worthy applause for being able to stand its ground until now. But, if you look closely at its eyes, there''s still some fight left in them despite standing on its last leg.
"Let''s in this now, Pidgey! Use tackle!" Falkner said excitedly, seeing they were about to win the battle.
"Pek!"
Next, Pidgey dived from the air towards Patrat, who was standing near the tree with
Bang!
In everyone''s astounded expression, Patrat succeeded in blocking Pidgey''s blow and landed a counterpunch, staggering it.
But, before Pidgey could relieve itself and escape the proximity, it was struck by a malice intent, feeling flustered.
''Leer! Perfect timing too.'' Edward thought, impressed with the opposing Patrat.
A red tint appeared on Patrat''s eyes, making everyone who saw it tremble with fear.
After that, Patrat dealt the finishing blow with an uppercut to Pidgey''s head following its previous moves.
Pidgey flew in the air momentarily as a consequence of Patrat''s attack before falling on the ground unconscious.
One second, two seconds... ten seconds.
Referee: Pidgey has lost the ability to fight. The winner is Patrat from the Patrat tribe of the lake region.
(Where did that referee come from!)
Finally, a loud cheer went through the clearing, and several few Patrats went into the field to lift their winner up in the air.
"Chee!"
"Chee!"
...
"Pidgey!"
In the midst of the cheering, Falkner ran towards the figure of Pidgey, who was still not waking up after a few seconds had passed.
''Phew! It looks like Pidgey only fainted temporarily.''
He sighed in relief after carefully checking his companion''s condition.
"How is it? It''s rather thrilling, isn''t it?"
Edward asked after seeing Falkner had finished his Pokemon''s physical examination.
He doesn''t know anything about nursing Pokemon back to health. You can say he has zero experience in this study.
If it weren''t for Rosa to take over this role as a temporary medic, they might be in a quandary right now.
Thus, he is more assured to let Falkner inspect his Pokemon than himself as he is an ornithologist(bird-watcher) while he is just your friendly neighborhood spiderman! Where did that come from?
Edward shook his head,
Basically, he is just your typical 21st-century geek orphan transmigrated into an occasional outdoor enthusiast that got lucky. It is only with the system''s help that he would be able to get this far ahead of the other contestants.
Though, he remembered seeing Nurse Joy''s basic Pokemon care guide in the store. It might be helpful in the future if he has the points to spare.
''A matter that I need to look at in the future,'' Edward jotted down in his mind.
"Yeah, it was. But, we still lost the battle," Falkner replied dejectedly.
"Well, it is still a beneficial experience, right? Come on, let''s head back to the camp." Edward patted his shoulder and went past him to meet the Patrat''s leader, who was beaming with pride.
Coming to a stop in front of them, Edward took out the wager as promised and handed it to the leader.
It took the bag and nodded affirmingly after checking the content inside.
Lastly, they both shook each other''s hands and left towards their respective destination.
...
[Falkner and Pidgey still did a great job tho, even though they lost.]
[Man, that chipmunk hit like Muhammad Ali, did you see that?]
[I love the finishing blow, that red eyes. It feels like I was watching Uchiha Madara''s fight again.]
[Let''s call this creature Patrat! Ps: I''m Edward.]
Everyone else on the live stream discussed the battle just now, while many researchers are taking notes behind the scenes.
...
In a big tunnel near the woodland, a loud cheer reverberated throughout the surroundings startling many other inhabitants. For the sake of their sanity, they decided to steer clear of Patrat''s territory today.
''Looks like those crazy-eyed chipmunks are at it again today. Ha...'' Many of them thought inside their minds.
"Brothers, sisters! Tonight we party! Yeah. Bring out the nuts!"
The diminutive leader called out to his fellow chipmunks.
"Chee!"
...
"Hey, Beautifly? Do you think I need to tame a beast like Edward and Falkner?"
Rosa asked in a small voice while picking up the scattered firewood from the ground.
She decided to stroll near the periphery of the woods while collecting some firewood after seeing that it was running out.
In addition, Beautifly tagged along as her escort while Timburr was back at the camp, staying guard.
"Bree?" It replied confusedly.
"I mean, both Edward and Falkner have tamed creatures like you, Torchic, Pidgey, Timburr, and... and I that I am the most useless one in the group. Do you think I should try to tame one?"
"Bree... Bree!" It was hesitant for a moment and then replied affirmatively.
"Really! Do you think so? But I''m still a little scared of them. Uh, I didn''t mean..."
Before Rosa could finished her words, they suddenly heard a strange sound.
"Slither~" (Lol, I do not know what a slithering snake sounds like)
"Slither~"
Both halted their tracks and looked at the slithering sound coming from behind a thicket just a few meters ahead of them.
They both looked at each other and nodded in a silent agreement. After that, they carefully sneak inside while keeping a lookout for any threats.
To their surprise, they saw a half-meter tall egg resting quietly inside a small opening of a tree.
While finding this egg should be a momentous joy for everyone here, including the viewers and researchers behind the scenes, it is still in a dangerous situation.
Why? Because in the corner of their eyes, they saw a snake is slithering towards it.
Chapter 37: Ekans
...
The purple serpentine creature is heading towards the egg with a salivating look on its face. Everyone here, including the spectators, knows the snake is going for it.
The snake looks quite similar to a rattlesnake commonly found in the Americas except for its coloring.
Aside from its purple skin, its eyes, underbelly, the thick stripe around its neck, and rattle are yellow.
But on the other hand, Rosa sees no visible teeth inside its mouth, so she can conclude that its bites are not venomous yet.
''Based on its size, it must be a young creature just out of its offspring stage,'' she added after scrutinizing the snake.
While a snake can flick its tongue out to detect danger or the scent of its prey, it appears that its attention was fully occupied on the egg sitting under the tree opening.
They are quite lucky in this regard.
"Beautifly, we need to rescue that egg from that snake. Are you okay with this?" Rosa murmured while sneaking closer towards the tree.
"Bree!"
"Great. Now we just need to wait for the right moment to strike," Rosa replied after hearing Beautifly''s agreement.
...
A few minutes after, a human and a butterfly stood behind a thick bush as cover while holding their breath.
They were waiting for the snake to drop its guard when it was going for the egg.
...
Ekans slithered on the grass stealthily, leaving no trails behind it as it moved towards the egg.
He just woke up after a nice long sleep. Usually, he goes out to explore the woods while looking for food to fill his belly.
Small birds and the like are his usual prey. Sometimes he goes fishing in the river if the current is weak enough to swim. Only during a worst-case scenario, he has to snack on the berries growing in the woods.
In fact, it is pretty tasty if he has to say something about it, not that he will never admit it out loud. He is not one of those chipmunks!
''I''m a snake! Like my father and his father before me, we will never admit that!''
It''s a routine by this point. Every day, he will go out to find some food, then return to his nest and sleep right off the bat.
To his surprise, he found something new today just after slithering out of his nest.
It looks so round, so white, so... so delicious.
At first, he surveyed the surrounding area several times before finally determining that the egg in front of him was ownerless.
Poor egg, its parents must have had some accident. But, don''t worry, you will be joining them soon too.
Muahaha!
Hahahaha!
Cough!
Ehem!
Anyway, not wasting this good fortune, he moved quickly towards the tree while fantasizing about the exquisite taste of the egg in his mind. The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
The savory and softness of the egg white, the mildly sweet and creamy yolk.
"Beautifly attack that slimy snake now!" Then, a loud sound appeared out of thin air.
"?"
Turning his head towards where the sound came from, he was unexpectedly met with white strings that were moving right to his face.
"Ack!"
...
''This snake is slightly out of its minds,'' This thought appeared in both of their minds while watching the snake laughing crazily by itself.
Rosa and Beautifly are only a few meters away from the egg''s location.
They had been waiting for this moment for quite some time.
''Now!'' Rosa determined.
"Beautifly attack that slimy snake now!" Rosa shouted, instructing Beautifly to ambush the snake while hoping that the snake would be distracted by her sudden loud voice.
"Bree!"
Many white strings shot out from its abdomen and flew off towards the enemy''s eyes, attempting to obstruct its vision.
It''s a success!
The strings managed to stick on its face.
After that, it rolled on the ground, trying to remove the string from its eyes. While it was struggling, it fired off from a few poison barbs its mouth towards Beautifly based on the scent it sensed by its tongue.
The stingers missed the target by a large margin and went on to hit the tree behind it.
Sss~
"Beautifly, don''t get close to it!" Rosa said worriedly after seeing the effect of the snake''s stingers on the tree, corroding it slightly.
"Bree!" It replied positively.
Next, a gust of strong winds was whipped up by its wings and launched towards the opponent who had succeeded in removing the strings from its face.
...
''Hah! Finally, I managed to remove these pesky strings. That butterfly is going to get it soon,'' Ekans snorted disdainfully.
Just as he turned his head towards his ambushers, he was struck by a whirlwind, courtesy of Beautifly.
"Nani!"
His body was sucked into it and whirled around wildly before soaring off into the sky.
''Ekans is blasting off!''
Twinkle~
(AN: Good times.)
...
"Did that snake say, Nani? Rosa asked Beautifly, who was hovering beside her while watching the snake disappear towards the horizon.
"Bree!" It replied as if it was saying ''anime logic'' shruggingly.
''Did it just shrug its wings?'' Rosa thought in confusion.
She shook her head, clearing these inexplicable questions out of her mind.
Walking towards the tree opening, she then crawled inside it and took out a half-meter tall egg into her embrace.
"Wow!" Everyone watched the egg, gaped with wonder.
"We did it Beautifly! We saved the egg!" Rosa said exuberantly.
"Bree!"
[That''s a huge egg. Is that an egg of a beast? What do you guys think will hatch from it?]
[Slurrp. Yeah, so big, so creamy, so delicious.]
[Hello? Why is there no one asking about that snake who was blasted to the sky?]
[Nah, man, I''m not going there. Nope.]
...
Timburr is walking towards the brown creature sitting alone by the riverside.
On his right hand, he is carrying his trusty tree log. It''s one of the best he found long before he met Edward.
It was from an ancient tree struck by lightning and caught fire for seven days and seven nights before it crumbled, revealing the tree core inside. After that, it was bathed in the lake created by the legendary beast, instilling its aura inside it.
And lo and behold, the Samsara Lightning Wood!
''All hail the mighty log, Amen.''
It nodded to itself.
His step is purposeful with a clear intention on his goals.
Yes, right now, the key to his salvation is resting on that plump mouse.
In particular, those big ass teeth are the reason they caught his eyes.
...
"Psst! Bro! Hey! I need your help with something!"
"Go away, don''t bother me. Can''t you see I''m busy?" The mouse replied annoyingly.
"Don''t be like that, bro! Look here. I can pay you for this. I need your expertise on something."
He sneakily took out a bag of Pokemon food from his back and showed it to him while glancing around the surroundings in case Edward and the others returned.
He twitched his head in annoyance and stopped his work.
"First, I''m not your bro. Second, I do not take any commission... What''s that in your hand?" Just as he is about to chase away this brute who disturbed him working, his nose caught a whiff of a delicious smell emanating from the stranger''s hand.
"It''s the food created by my Edward. Just don''t tell him that you got it from me because I stole it from him." Timburr whispered into his ears.
He took a few pieces from his hand and threw them into his mouth. Then, it nodded in consent after tasting the food offered by the stranger.
"Alright, you have a deal."
"Great, I need you to help me make this thinner." After hearing his agreement, he placed the log on the ground and showed it to him.
"Is this the legendary wood struck by lightning?"
...
"Hyah!"
A figure stood on top of a rock in the middle of the river, swinging his staff around his body nimbly.
Suddenly, he jumped off the rock and slammed the staff on the surface of the water, creating a large splash of water around him.
"This is great!" Timburr yelled excitedly, examining the staff that the mouse had made from his tree log.
"Timburr! Where are you?" Rosa''s voice came from the camp looking for him.
''Oops. I better get back to the camp quickly.''
Chapter 38: Lord Bidoof
...
"Why are you so happy all of a sudden?" Edward asked, watching Rosa humming with joy while tending the fire inside the pit.
...
They had arrived at the camp just a few moments ago after battling a few aggressive Pokemon in the woods.
After they parted ways with the Patrat''s group, they met a few other Pokemon on the way back, such as Rattata, Spearow, and Venipede.
Seeing this rare opportunity to train his Torchic, he led both Falkner and Pidgey through the woods, defeating their opponent one by one swiftly, though Venipede took some time to beat due to its poison.
Actually, he is amazed by its potential. First, it used Rollout to maneuver around Torchic skillfully. Next, it further strengthened the move by relying on its Poison Point ability, layering its carapace with toxic venom to deter Torchic from attacking its weak spot.
Fortunately, Torchic knows how to use Detect proficiently after many battles it had gone through. Torchic managed to evade its fast-rolling move just before it hit and rammed the opponent with a Flame Charge on its head, knocking it unconscious.
As it happens, Edward might just conquer this Pokemon if it weren''t for the fact it is a Poison-type Pokemon. Moreover, he hasn''t found any Pecha Berries that can counteract the effect of poisoning.
So, he has to let the Pokemon go with a heavy heart.
Anyway, Edward caused quite a stir in the woods, beating many wild Pokemon until they inevitably had to leave in defeat after stumbling into the territory of a horrible and stinky Pokemon, Stunky.
Stunky is a small, skunk-like Pok¨¦mon with dark-purple fur. Its face is large and rounded, with a narrow orange nose, orange-rimmed eyes, and two pairs of somewhat "V"-shaped cream-colored whiskers on the sides of its face.
It has two pointed ears that appear orange on the inside. A stripe of cream-colored fur runs along its back, with a small tuft protruding from behind its neck.
Also, its tail is raised high and ends with spiked hair pointed behind it. Finally, it has a cream-colored underbelly and four short legs with three white spikes on each leg.
Stunky noticed the intruders breaching its domain and then protected itself by spraying a noxious fluid from its rear to the air. As a result, they bolted straight out of that hellhole after smelling the foul-smelling stench lingering in the air.
In fact, they can still smell the stench on their nose despite being far away from the Pokemon''s territory. That''s just how terrible it is.
Following the horrifying episode, he decided that Torchic''s had enough training for the time being and returned to their camp to meet up with Rosa.
...
"Edward! Falkner! You guys are back!" Rosa exclaimed merrily after noticing the figure of Edward and the others near the camp.
"Something seems off with you today. Did something happen?" Edward asked curiously after seeing the broad smile plastered on her face.
"Oh! I have something to show you guys. Give me a minute!" She stood up and ran into the tents they had set up earlier.
Edward and Falkner looked at each other and shrugged their shoulders, unaware of the incident that occurred to Rosa while they were finding some food.
Just as they were about to prepare their early lunch, Rosa returned, walking towards them while carrying an egg wrapped in clothes as a makeshift carrier.
"Is that an egg?" Falkner asked in amazement after seeing the egg in Rosa''s embrace.
"Yes. Isn''t it wonderful? Beautifly and I found it near the woods. A snake nearly ate it before we managed to rescue it." She replied while caressing the egg softly.
"Wow!"
Both Edward and Falkner went closer to the egg and observed it with their eyes full of wonder.
"Can you guys guess what kind of creature will hatch out of it?" She asked her team members.
"No idea. I don''t know. A Pidgey, maybe?" Falkner thought for a few seconds, then shook his head and replied jokingly.
"Pek!"
"See! Even Pidgey thought the same," Falkner said, agreeing with his Pokemon''s cry.The genuine version of this novel can be found on another site. Support the author by reading it there.
Rosa shook her head after watching Falkner''s antic with his bird.
"Edward?" She turned towards Edward.
"I don''t know either," Edward shrugged his shoulder after watching the egg carefully.
It''s true.
He really has no idea what kind of Pokemon this egg will hatch into. In fact, he even used the system''s sight to identify the egg, but the only information displayed is unknown except for its typing, which is a grass-type Pokemon.
"Come on, let''s prepare our lunch. We will be leaving for the canyon soon." Edward said towards them.
...
"Hahaha!"
A fire is burning by the river banks, surrounded by multiple figures having their afternoon meal. Occasionally, a round of merry laughter can be heard from within the camp.
A lone figure is sitting on the rock, watching the camp bustling with warmth and joy. It seemed to stare into the distance, apparently remembering something deep in its memories.
Click!
The sound of a tree branch being stepped on echoed in its ears.
It snapped out of its deep remembrance, then looked towards the figure who was walking towards its spot while carrying a bowl filled with food.
"Here, we have some extra left. This is for you." The figure raised his hand, showing no intention of harm, and placed the bowl near its rock.
Then, the figure left, returning to his camp.
It stared at the figure''s back for some time before eating the food sent by him.
"Bidoof!"
...
Edward had just reached the camp after sending the food to Bidoof that it requested from him. It appears they struck some sort of friendship while staying guard back at the campsite.
"Come on, guys! Let''s pack up and leave!" Edward said to his companion loudly.
A clamor went through the entire camp while they quickly washed their dishes and packed their tent inside the bag.
As they are hoisting the beg onto their shoulder, a tremor occurs suddenly.
It is pretty similar to the tremor that happened back in the lake.
"Everybody, calm down! It should be over soon." Edward reminded his members.
"Edward! Look at the river! The current is getting stronger! We need to get away from this place quickly!" Falkner shouted while pointing his finger at the river.
Boom!
It appears that something must have happened after that loud crashing sound because the river current is getting stronger. Some even spilled on the banks pulling many stones and tree branches into the water.
Before they were about to enter the woods and wait for the current to weaken, they heard a mournful cry.
"Bidoof!"
The familiar small creature ran towards the river, attempting to break through the strong current. Unfortunately, its small frame couldn''t fight against the wrath of mother nature.
It appears that it will drown in the river if they didn''t rescue it soon.
"Beautifly, I need your help to save it!" Edward commanded Beautifly to rescue the Pokemon drowning in the river while tying a rope around its body so it could grab onto it easily.
"Let Pidgey help too!" Falkner said, offering his Pokemon''s help.
"Bree!"
"Pek!"
...
Huh!
Huh!
After a few minutes of struggling, they managed to pull the mouse-like creature out of the river. But, unfortunately, it has fallen unconscious after swallowing too much water. Rosa quickly performed an emergency rescue for the Pokemon removing the water out its lungs. Luckily, it woke up immediately, making them sigh in relief.
"Bidoof!" It stared at the river while shedding its tears in sadness.
"Why is it crying?" Falkner whispered into his ears.
"I think I know why. Look over there," Replied Edward while nodding his head toward the far side of the river.
"A dam?" Falkner said confusedly.
"It is its home. However, something unfortunate may have fallen upon its family because beavers usually live in a group." Edward explained his findings.
"A beaver? I thought it was a mouse or a rat?" Falkner asked.
"It is only a guess. Besides, why would it swim desperately towards the dam just now?" said Edward.
...
The dam was destroyed thoroughly by the strong current of the river. At this moment, they are standing in front of the wreckage caused by the tremor.
"Bidoof," It cried sadly while picking up a tree piece from the wreckage of the dam.
"Timburr!"
After staring at the scene and listening to the Bidoof''s cry, Timburr suddenly gave a confident shout.
It went to a nearby tree and cut it down using the small axe it took from Edward''s bag. Then, it chopped it into smaller pieces before carrying them back towards the wreckage and trying to rebuild the dam back up again.
"Timburr!" It replied after noticing everyone was staring at itself.
"Alright, Timburr. We are going to help too," Edward patted its head.
...
"Haa! I''m tired! This will take one more day at least to finish rebuilding." Rosa panted after rolling up a tree block into the river.
"What can we do? Are you just going to leave it like this?" Edward asked after hearing her statement.
"Of course not. But, I wish we could get more people to help us," she replied to Edward''s question.
"Hmm, help.. Give me a few minutes," said Edward while picking up his bags and running towards the woods with Torchic following suit.
...
"Chee!"
"Chee!"
A few minutes have passed after Edward''s left into the woods. Suddenly many cries can be heard coming from the woods, scaring many other occupants into hiding.
After that, they all looked towards the periphery of the forest, readying themselves for any incursion.
Edward''s figure can be seen walking out of the woods with many Patrat following behind him. After seeing his friend''s surprised expression, he shouted, "I bought some help."
...
Finally, they rebuilt the dam after working together with the Patrat''s group. As a result, a new dam can be faintly seen in the distance standing in the middle of the river.
"Bye! Thanks for your help." Rosa waved her hand towards the Patrat''s group, who were leaving for their home while carrying some Pokemon food in their hands.
Apparently, Edward had offered them more Pokemon food in exchange for their help.
Soon, they were leaving towards the canyon after helping Bidoof rebuild its home.
Behind them, Bidoof was standing beside a tree, watching them getting farther away.
"Hey, Bidoof! Are you coming with us?" Edward''s shout came into its ears just as it was about to head back to its home.
It turned its head and saw the figure of Edward waving his hands towards itself.
"Bidoof!"
It gave a loud cry before running towards them. The lonely Pokemon has found a new home.
...
[Ding! Congratulations to the host for capturing Lord Bidoof]

Chapter 39: Exploring The Cave
"Nice one Torchic!"
Edward applauded his Pokemon after defeating the wild Yungoos rushing towards them.
Walking towards the downed Pokemon, Edward checked its condition first, making sure that it had passed out before sighing in relief.
Then, he carried it in his hands and hid it beside a nearby tree. He also left some fruits for the poor Pokemon before leaving it alone.
Yungoos is a long-bodied Pokemon similar to a mongoose. It is covered in brown fur with a yellow stripe down its back and underside. It has short, rounded ears on the sides of its head, a short snout with a pink nose, and a large mouth full of pointed teeth.
In addition, Yungoos is thick-bodied and has a wide, flat tail with longer fur on the tip despite its length with three sharp claws on its leg.
On their way to the canyon, they discovered this Pokemon devouring many things, such as fruits, plants, and even trees. It seems to have a voracious appetite and is always hungry.
While it was eating, it noticed their presence and came running with a hungry expression on its face. It likely was aiming for the food in their bag after smelling it.
Although its appearance is quite vicious, it only took Torchic a few moves to beat it to the ground.
"What a weird creature. It had been eating non-stop since we met it," Falkner stated.
"Maybe its stomach can digest nutrients quickly. That''s why it is always feeling hungry," Rosa reasoned after observing its behavior.
Everyone in the live stream
While Rosa and Falkner are chatting about the ravenous creature that they met just now, Edward has just finished checking the progress of Torchic.
He is quite delighted that Torchic has reached level 15 after tempering its body through many battles. It only needs a few more fights to stimulate its evolutionary process. Moreover, its flames temperature had already reached 1,000¡ãC, the optimal heat it could bear at this cycle. Any more than that will cause it to experience severe heatstroke.
Quickly, he took out a notebook from his pocket and flipped through the pages before stopping on a particular section. The notebook is filled with the notes he jotted down yesterday after obtaining the Pokemon training guide he bought from the system''s shop.
''Hmm. Strong fire energy can also give greater benefits to Torchic at the stage of maturity. The fire-rich energy can stimulate its unearthed potential making its body more robust before evolving to Combusken..,'' Edward read the lines written on the journal carefully for a few minutes before closing it and storing it back.
''I remember the caves we are visiting are close to the volcano seen on the map. I hope there is a tunnel connecting both places inside the caves,'' Edward assumed while observing Torchic, who was bouncing excitedly. It appears to be overflowing with boundless energy, just waiting for the right moment to evolve.
"Edward! Come on, Let''s go! We are almost there!" Rosa''s yell snapped him out of his thought.
"Coming!"
...
Meanwhile, an animated discussion about the encounter is taking place in the live stream commentary section. The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
[That is a weird mongoose. Look at its sharp teeth and yellow fur.]
[Is it just me, or does everyone else think that creature is a bit similar to a certain president?]
[Now that you mentioned it, I think they are pretty similar.]
(AN: Lol. Moving one)
...
"Pidgey, are there any wild beasts roaming up ahead?"
Falkner asked his partner after it landed on his outstretched gloved hand.
He had been wearing it after suffering multiple scratches due to Pidgey''s sharp''s talon. Luckily, it is still a young Pokemon, so the cuts on his hand aren''t too deep.
Although their fitness has been increasing since consuming the berries on the island, they are still no match for the Pokemons living on the island. It might take a long period of accumulation before thinking about receiving a Pokemon''s attack with their bodies. Still, a foolhardy notion in his opinion.
"Pek!" It shook its head, indicating there weren''t any visible hostiles after scouting the canyon up ahead.
Seeing that he had Pidgey as his partner, Falkner decided to be the team''s scout after discussing with Edward and Rosa. Furthermore, its flight speed is several times faster than Beautifly, coupled with its sharp sense of direction. It can sense the whereabouts of Falkner at the current moment, no matter the time or place. A perfect talent for the team''s scout.
"Looks like we are on the right track. We will reach there in about half an hour," said Rosa, looking at the map on her navigear.
They haven''t met any wild Pokemons after the small encounter with Yungoose. The tremor might have something to do with this situation. They were shooked after experiencing the occurrence twice and left the surrounding area.
While they were walking on the road, Edward accessed the system''s store and perused the goods listed. He has enough points now to buy several things that he couldn''t afford earlier.
''Hmm, Combusken training manual is a must. And two more manuals for Bidoof and Timburr. I need to start training them soon. Lastly, herbal medicine recipes in case they are injured or poisoned. And I''ll save the rest for future emergencies,'' Edward selected a few things from the shop and cleared the system''s display from his vision.
(AN: I changed his system''s access a little bit)
Then he joined the others and chatted with them along the road.
Half an hour later, they finally reached their destination, where many caves dotted on the cliffside. It is a massive labyrinth of an underground tunnel with many paths branching towards the unknown. That is what was written on the mission in the tasks section.
"Looks like this series of caves is dangerous. There''s one team consisting of engineers, researchers, and armed soldiers that has yet to return from it. Huh? The officials have increased the rewards for their rescue if they are still alive," Rosa read the mission details out loud.
"Bring them back if they are still alive, got it," said Edward while wearing a night-vision goggle and changing his outdoor clothes to a fire retardant suit.
The three people quickly changed their gear and stood on one of the cave''s entrances. It''s the easiest one to get access to compared to other entrances.
The cave entrance is about 50 meters high, which is equivalent to the height of a 20-story building, while the width is nearly half the length.
It seems that there may be large Pokemon living inside the cave. Edward''s aura sense is flaring widely, covering the maximum range around them.
"Are you guys ready?" asked Edward, turning his head toward
"Yeah!"
"Chic!"
"Alright, let''s go!"
...
The cave was getting darker and darker as they went inside until finally, the sunlight was completely blocked by the cave''s darkness.
"Turn on the NVG," Edward instructed his team.
Tnn~
Using a flashlight inside a dark cave is a stupid idea. The flashing light will only arouse the curiosity of wild Pokemon, so that''s why they are using an NVG (Night-Vision Goggles) to explore the cave safely.
The staff in charge of Edward''s group live stream also switched on the night-vision function on the camera so everyone else could see the cave''s interior.
They steered clear of the Pokemons roaming inside the cave, stopping every now and then, letting them move ahead before finally moving past them sneakily. Although his Pokemon can defeat them slowly, why does he need to take the risk?
Moreover, this darkness is restricting his ability to command his Pokemon, further putting them in a disadvantageous situation.
It was only one hour later they finally reached a cavern deep inside the cave.
"There''s light here!" shouted Falkner.
They quickly removed the NVG from their head while rubbing their eyes to relieve the soreness after seeing through it for a long time. Just as they were turning their attention towards the large chamber, suddenly, they gaped in awe.
"Diamonds!"
...
Chapter 40: Mining Diamonds
"Wow!" they uttered, terribly shocked.
Hundreds of diamonds are scattered on the ceiling and the cavern walls.
The ray of light shone from a few small gaps inside the cavern refracted their light onto the surroundings. The diamonds sparkled brilliantly into a harmonic pattern as they stared at it in amazement.
"Are these real diamonds or just some other types of crystals?" asked Edward while chipping off a small diamond from the wall and examining it closely under his eye.
"Not sure," answered Rosa. "But there''s a high possibility they are genuine diamonds if what the audience said in the live commentaries are true."
[I think it''s a diamond, what do you guys think?]
[My pretties!]
[I wish I was there. There are so many diamonds.]
...
They walked around the cavern, enjoying the sight while pocketing a few diamonds on the wall, loose enough that they were able to chip at it with a small shovel into their pocket.
Who wouldn''t? No one would miss this opportunity. It is free money scattered around, after all.
They keep moving from one wall to another, chipping at it while chatting among themselves.
Boom!
A few rocks fall on the ground broken. Numerous tiny diamonds can be seen lying among it.
"Timburr!" it roared, smashing the cavern''s wall into smaller rocks with a swing of its shovel.
"Nice one, Timburr!" praised Rosa, patting its head as a sign of praise.
"Bidoof!" cried Bidoof, unwilling to sit around lazily in front of its new companions. It used the sharp teeth on its upper jaw to break bigger rocks into smaller ones revealing the beautiful minerals inside.
"You too, Bidoof!"
...
Before long, their pockets were full bulging with diamonds after walking around the cavern. In just a few minutes, they had become a multi-millionaire, hitting the jackpot.
"We strike it rich!" said Rosa happily.
"Yeah, It''s unfortunate that we couldn''t take them all away. The cavern wall is too hard to dig through," Edward replied, looking at the diamonds in the distance longingly.
Edward isn''t as lucky as Rosa and Falkner. Both of them hailed from an upper-middle class family, while he was from a working-class family in both of his lives. The social pressure, coupled with the rising rate of unemployment, turned him into an introverted weeb, barely passing by with a dead-end job.If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it''s taken without the author''s consent. Report it.
That''s why he decided to enter this challenge to grab the rich rewards even though he knew of its dangers. Luckily, with the early help of his system, he managed to pull through in the early stage. Still, seeing there are so many diamonds left made his heart aches.
(AN: A bit late for writing the character''s background, but hey, better late than never, right?)
"Although, we still don''t know if they are real diamonds, not just some crystals," Rosa said.
"Either way, we are still going to be rich," Falkner answered while swinging his shovel on a particular rock, trying to uncover more diamonds before leaving.
"Hmm? Huh? Wait! Don''t hit that rock!" Edward shouted suddenly.
"Roar!"
...
Before Edward''s warning could reach Falkner''s ears, he had finished his swing.
"Boom!"
"Roar!"
A series of connected rocks suddenly moved after being struck by Falkner. Its movement pattern is quite similar to how a snake would move, slithering around the cavern, albeit noisier before a head popped out, hidden behind its body.
Then, it surveyed the surroundings with its black eyes. Apparently, it is searching for the commotion it felt just now.
...
[Is that a moving rock?]
[That''s a giant rock snake!]
Everyone else is shocked after seeing the whole appearance of the unidentified creature.
...
[Onix]
Level: 50
''Onix!'' Edward thought.
Falkner had inevitably disturbed the Pokemon while Edward was not paying attention to his sense due to their excitement.
Finally, it noticed the intruders collecting its favorite snacks, the diamonds, inside its territory. Currently, its eyes are staring at them with a cold, murderous look.
"Uh, hello?" Falkner greeted, waving his hand in a friendly gesture.
"Roar!"
Edward was about to tell his partner to run when suddenly, the cave shook violently, and the little bits of rock were falling from the cavern''s ceiling caused by it.
"Run!" Rosa exclaimed. "It is angry!"
They ran through the cave quickly, the cave shaking more violently as they kept at it. The Onix was chasing them from behind while roaring loudly, making the cave shake even more.
"Torchic! Use ember now!" Edward shouted.
"Chic!"
Torchic breathed a fireball at the pissed-off Onix. But, unfortunately, it only managed to stall it for a second before resuming its chase. In fact, the fireball only made it angrier after it hit dead on his head.
''Shit! It''s too strong! Torchic''s attack basically does nothing to it,'' Edward screamed in his mind.
Many Pokemons roaming in the cave ran after hearing the loud noise caused by Onix''s movement. However, it kept its attention solely on them, ignoring the nearby Pokemons.
After running for a few minutes, Falkner managed to spot a small opening ahead as shelter from the chasing Onix.
"I see a small opening up ahead, but the entrance is too small to fit all of us in. We don''t have time time to wiggle through it!" Falkner shouted, informing them.
"That''s fine!" Edward''s eyes lit up.
A moment after, they arrived at the small opening while Onix was closing in on them.
"Timburr, break the rock on the opening!" Edward called.
"Timburr!"
After a few swings using its tree staff, it finally managed to smash the rocks, widening the entrance.
"Great! Get inside quickly!" Rosa shouted.
...
"Huhu!"
"Huhu!"
Inside a small tunnel, three figures were panting tiredly after running for their lives. A loud sound of something banging on a wall can be faintly heard in the distance, trying to break past it. After a few tries, the sound stopped suddenly. It seemed that the wild Pokemon had given up after failing to break the rock wall.
"We need to keep going. We don''t know if it can tear the wall down piece by piece," Edward said while taking a sip of water to wear off his fatigue.
In fact, Edward knows that Onix can burrow through the wall, although it might take some time before it can tear it down. It''s better to move ahead first to be on the safe side.
"Yeah, let''s go," Rosa said tiredly, pulling herself up from the ground.
...
Chapter 41: Zubat
"Haa, it''s another dead end," Rosa said tiredly. "We have to turn back and try another path."
As she spoke, she crossed the sketch she had drawn when they were walking through the cave. They had been venturing deep in the tunnel, running away from the angry Onix. Right now, they are thirsty and exhausted after walking for three hours, not finding a way out of the maze they had entered accidentally.
"Do you guys think that we might be lost?" Falkner said worriedly.
"Maybe, but we already checked the other path, and the only way we can escape this place is by going back to that hole we came through."
Edward shrugged his shoulder, answering Falkner''s question.
Unless they can beat the angry Onix waiting outside of the hole, they can only press forward.
"I didn''t expect there is such a huge creature-"
"Shhh! Did you guys hear that?" Falkner interrupted Rosa''s word, placing a hand on his ears.
"Huh? But, I can''t hear anything," Rosa asked Edward.
Whoosh!
"Get down!" Edward pushed Rosa and Falkner to the ground after sensing the attack coming from above.
Bam!
The figure missed its aim and went on to hit the wall, stunning itself in the process. Then it shook its head before trying to run away after the failed sneak attack.
"Oh no, you don''t. Beautifly, use String Shot on it!" Edward said to Beautifly.
A web of net made of white string expelled from Beautifly''s abdomen, covering the assailant''s whole body and restricting its movement. It tried to tear the netting with its teeth but failed to escape its entanglement before giving an angry cry towards them.
"Hey, it looks like a bat," Rosa said, observing its appearance.
"Bat!"
Zubat is a blue, bat-like Pokemon. While it lacks eyes, it has pointed ears with sharp hearing to navigate through the dark environments and tight caves with echolocation. It has purple wing membranes supported by two long and thin tails with two pointed teeth on each jaw.
"Yeah, I think we should knock it out first," Edward said after recognizing the wild Pokemon.
"Wait!" shouted Falkner.
"Huh?" They looked towards Falkner curiously.
"I think I can try to tame this creature," he volunteered. "Besides, it might help us get out of this predicament."
"Alright, but be careful. Although I see no sign of venom on its fangs, we will never know for sure," Edward advised his friend before standing next to Rosa. Then, he signaled Torchic to get ready to intervene if it got out of hand even though he agreed to Falkner''s request.
...
"Hey, buddy, you want some of this?" Falkner squatted down in front of it while holding some Pokemon food in his hands.
"Bat!" It sniffed the food in the Falkner''s hand carefully. Then, after determining that Falkner wouldn''t hurt it, it swallowed the food greedily.
"Bat!" cried the Bat happily. The food was the most delicious thing it had ever tasted in its life. After finishing the food, it shook its head at Falkner as if it was asking for more shamelessly.
"Here, have some more," Falkner smiled, seeing the Bat''s antics.
"Bat!" It thanked him first before gorging itself on the food.
"Do you want to join us? You can get more of that in the future," Falkner offered after he had established some goodwill between them.Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator.
Then, it scrutinized Falkner''s companions standing behind him before finally staring at Pidgey, who was sitting on his shoulder.
"Bat!" It pointed its wing at Pidgey as if it was saying something.
"Falkner! It wants to fight with Pidgey," Edward said loudly after recognizing Zubat''s gesture as a sign of a challenge.
"So, you want to fight us first, huh?" Falkner asked.
"Bat!"
"Alright then, Pidgey, let''s go!" Falkner called excitedly.
"Pek!"
...
The two Pokemon stood in front of each other, unwilling to strike first. This situation went on for a few seconds before Falkner took the initiative.
"Pidgey, use Tackle!" Falkner shouted.
Pidgey rushed toward its opponent as soon as it heard its master''s command. But, before it could hit Zubat, it flew sideways, avoiding the attack narrowly.
It appears Zubat is more nimble in the air when compared to Pidgey. It allows it to avoid Pidgey''s attack without much effort. Meanwhile, Pidgey has a faster flight speed, allowing it to power up its attack momentum, albeit with a lower turn rate. In the end, both have their advantages. It depends on the user how to exploit it in a battle.
Next, a negative aura filled Zubat''s body before it shouted, expelling the ghost energy at point-blank, in a startling manner.
"Pidgey!" Falkner said worriedly, seeing his partner hit by the evil-looking aura.
"Pek?" Pidgey cried confusedly, seeing nothing happened to itself after being attacked by its opponent.
"Thank god you''re fine," he sighed in relief. "Now, tackle it again!"
"Pek!"
Although it didn''t know why the attack released by Zubat just now was ineffective, it didn''t miss the stupefied expression of Zubat and followed with a tackle into its body. This time, he didn''t miss his strike, hitting its body and slamming it onto the wall.
"Nice!"
...
"Yee? Do wild creatures have their own type of energy? It used that weird aura to attack Pidgey just now, but it didn''t work. That means Pidgey must be immune to its attack." Rosa speculated.
"Yeah," Edward nodded.
As expected of the youngest holder of Ph.D. in the country, her theory wasn''t too far off the truth.
The attack used by Zubat just now is Astonish, a ghost-type move. Ghost type-move has no effect on Pidgey, who is a Normal/Flying-type Pokemon. No wonder it was shocked by its ineffectiveness. It probably never went out of this cave, living in here throughout its life.
...
Back to the ongoing battle
Zubat flew shakily into the air after receiving the hard impact caused by Pidgey and hitting the wall, respectively.
It didn''t know why its usual attack method failed to work on its enemy, but it still had some fight left in it, even though the recent attack injured it badly.
Next, Pidgey rushed towards it once more, seeing its opponent wasn''t giving up any time soon. It intends to end this fight with one last strike.
Suddenly, Zubat opened its mouth and released bizarre sound waves toward the rushing bird, staggering it mid-flight before plunging on the ground harshly.
Its eyes lit up upon seeing its attack was effective. Then, it increased the intensity of the waves, trying to disorientate Pidgey.
...
"Ah!"
Even the audience closed their ears painfully after being exposed to the sound waves transmitted by the mic in the live stream.
...
"Pidgey, Gust!" Falkner gasped, closing his ears to block off the painful screech.
"Pek!"
Pidgey stood up perseveringly while ignoring the intense pain in its ears and flapped its wing vigorously. As a result, a small-sized tornado was formed and advanced toward Zubat in the air.
It sucked Zubat and buffeted it from side to side within it. Finally, after a few seconds, Zubat''s figure was seen passed out on the ground.
"Phew, finally it''s over," Falkner exhaled deeply.
"We did it, Pidgey!"
"Pek!"
...
"So, is it going to be fine?" Falkner asked, poking the unconscious Zubat curiously.
"Yeah, although it looks badly injured, it is nothing but skin injuries. It only needs a few bandages here and there before its natural recovery will kick in and start the healing process. The juice from oran berries will help to speed up the process too. You can ask Edward about that." she said, patiently explaining Zubat''s current condition.
"Thank God-"
"Bat!"
"It is awake!" Falkner exclaimed.
...
Shortly after, it has rested enough to be able to communicate with Falkner clearly. They soon established an amicable relationship with each other. In the end, Zubat had finally decided to be Falkner''s companion.
"Guys, meet Bat!" Falkner said toward them happily.
"..."
"You have a terrible naming sense," Rosa said bluntly.
"I think Zubat is much better," Edward offered his opinion.
"Bat!"
"It''s decided then, Zubat it is!" Rosa clapped her hands together.
"By the way, does it know how to get out of this place?" Edward asked, reminding everyone of their current task.
"Uh, wait for a minute."
The two began to have a difficult talk between them. It''s quite interesting to see a human and a bat exchanging words from their perspective.
Finally, Falkner nodded understandingly, then turned towards them and said, "If I''m not mistaken, it said it doesn''t know the way out of this maze. But it knows somebody who knows the way. Well, I hope that is what it said earlier."
"Well, lead the way," Edward said, making way for Falkner to pass through.
...
After walking through the complicated maze for an hour and a half, they finally reached a small empty chamber.
"Huh? there''s nothing here but dirt," Rosa looked around the cavern carefully.
"Bat!" It cried softly towards the empty room, repeatedly.
They can feel the thin sound waves passing through their body, then into the ground and the wall.
"What are you doing, Zubat?" Falkner asked the Pokemon sitting on his shoulder.
Although its injuries had mostly healed due to Edward''s help, it still wasn''t able to fly in the air. So, Falkner had to carry it all the way until now.
"I think it is calling somebody," Edward said.
"Diglett, dig!"
"Diglett, dig!"
''Diglett?''
...
