《We Die Together》 Chapter 1: Sirens I was racing through the streets in search of my friend, Roanne. I was carrying a large college book with me as i tore through the town. I raced inside a building that had my friend inside. I ran up the steps and turned to face the door, and knocked repeatedly, panting.....fearful. "Come on, Ro! Open the door!" I shouted as I looked down the steps. I couldn''t be seen! I couldn''t be noticed by them. I HAD to hurry! I continued rapping on the door, until suddenly, Roanne opened. "Let me in! Let me in! Let me in - " I cried. Immediately, Ro let her slip inside and locked the door behind her. My friend turned to face me and hugged. I cried in relief. "Did you get it?" Ro asked. I showed the notebook to her. "Yes." I replied. The notebook contained information about business stuff. Me and Ro were college students. We planned to have a future business together. Ro nodded. "So, is this it? You''re finally free from her?" I sobbed in relief. This all felt too unreal! Like a dream. "Yeah, but not for long. We need to hide!" To put a hand on both my shoulders and looked into my amber eyes. "I''m not going to let that psychopath hurt us. Let''s wait until midnight, then we can pack the apartment and move. I already have a sorority house that is ready for us." My mother had kept me in her house for years after I turned eighteen. Never to leave. She only wanted me to herself. Her control began to take a toll on my life at age ten. I''ve been wanting to go to college with Ro, but my mother wouldn''t let me go.....physically. I had to do it all on a laptop and a big notebook. This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there. How I escaped her you ask? I lied to her by saying that I''m going to have Ro help me out, since she was wiser than me. I told her I would be gone a couple of hours, but in reality...it was my grand escape. I had to leave everything in my room behind. I had a rough life with that narcissist. And my father has always sided along with her....adding more hurt to my internal torture. My father and I had a good relationship...way apart from her. I shivered as my old life flashed before my eyes. This is a new phase. I looked at the clock on the desk. It was almost eleven at night. I smiled. The psychotic mother she had surprisingly allowed her to be up late hours into the night.....as long as I was studying. ................................................. Spent only those two hours hauling ass as we were desperate to beat the time we had. We were able to sneak out in the dead of night. As Ro drove...she spoke to me about something about something new happening in our lives. A pandemic that will spread worldwide. I laughed and looked in her direction. "What is it? Are the locusts from the Revelations finally coming out?" Most of the viruses that we''ve had were all false. Only leading to the common cold or allergies. Ro shook her head in disbelief at my tease and smiled. "Maybe they''ll inject clouds of pollen into the air and make us sneeze until we turn red and swollen!" I laughed louder this time. If the weatherman can lie...so can the news...... ................................................... We made it to the house and as we packed our bags, our concentration was broken as we heard the sirens. We stopped to listen in to the far away sounds. Ro and I looked at each other. "Is that a firetruck?" Ro asked. "It honestly sounds like a mix of police, firetrucks and ambulances! Sounds like clusters of them!" I replied. The noise grew louder and louder. Soon, we were able to see hundreds of ambulances, firetrucks and police, all in a line, tearing through their street and sounding off the alarms. What was going on? Ro and I looked at each other with confusion...until suddenly, way from afar...we heard the sound of the alarm going off by the city''s military base. It grew louder and louder, alerting everyone...making them come out of their homes to examine the chaos that waited them. I tilted my head and looked at Ro. "What''s going on here? What was said on the news?" Ro shrugged. "Some kind of deadly virus that will wipe out the world. It''s coming from Maine...and spreading here?" "What? Did the laboratory release a monster into the streets?" I questioned. Ro shook her head. "I have no clue." Chapter 2: Sick We ignored the walls of the vehicles, sounding their alarms. We assumed that they were just doing some sort of lockdown drill for whatever reason. This city has always been dramatic. Always having lockdown drills. Well, hats not quite true. It''ll happen once every decade. We spent the rest of the night, unpacking our belongings as we settled in to our new home. I looked around, and then looked at Ro. "So, no one''s here, but us?"This tale has been unlawfully lifted without the author''s consent. Report any appearances on Amazon. My blonde friend nodded her head. "No one, but us. We have the place to ourselves!" My smile grew wide, then fell once I remembered the situation. I look out the window and closed the curtains. "So, they''re not going to know where we are? We''re safe?" Ro nodded again. .................................................... The sun had risen into the sky, and we finally unpacked the remainder of our luggage and went upstairs to our rooms. I made sure the front and back door were locked before tucking into bed. I also deadbolted the doors and locked every window and shut every curtain. That psychopath CAN NOT know where I am. If THAT were to happen.... The world would end...... Chapter 2: Sick (part 2) When I woke up, my stomach ached with hunger. I descended down the stairs to the tiny kitchen and cook some toast. As I waited for the bread to crisp up, I turned around to see the glorious sunshine (and to make sure that my psychotic mother wasn''t peeking through the corner of the window), and noticed that I wasn''t the only one awake. Ro sat on the white armchair, scrolling through her phone. "Hey." I greeted. Ro didn''t look at me though, she didn''t even say a word. She only continued to stare at her phone. I tilted my head and folded my arms. "Is everything alright?" Suddenly, my toast popped up, and as I turned to take care of it, Ro finally speaks. "Mmm, I''m not feeling all that peachy." "I can tell that." I say. Ro then mumbled. "I think staying up all night caused my body to hate me. I don''t know...everything aches." I nod slowly. "Yeah, me too. We must''ve caught the midnight chill. After all, it IS close to winter time..." "Mm - hmm." Ro muttered.Reading on this site? This novel is published elsewhere. I nodded and walked back upstairs, I could immediately begin to feel my body drain. I slumped back into bed and wrapped myself under the thick blankets. ............................................... When I woke up once again, it was nearly nighttime. Noticing the time, I race back down the stairs, only for my stomach to feel nauseous. What the hell? Suddenly, I could hear Ro retching in the bathroom. When she emerged, I went over to talk to her. "You okay?" Ro shook her head. "I think you''re right, Gale. I think we DID catch something in the air. Maybe it''s flu season." I nodded. "Times of change in the weather again." Suddenly, I found myself coughing. Ro shook her head. "Maybe we should get back into bed." I nodded my head in agreement. "Tomorrow, I''ll go to the clinic, and see what I can find for medicine." Ro shook her head. "Just don''t worry about it, we''ll find something here....besides, she''ll find you if you''re not careful." Oh right, I think to myself. "I think we just need bed rest." Ro suggested. I nodded once again. We walked back up to the stairs and separated as we entered our rooms. I slept well, but still my body felt crappy. With my body refusing to go back to sleep, I look through my phone. Even though I was scared of that witch, I still needed to go get SOMETHING! We barely had anything healthy in the fridge. We need to either be at the grocery store or the clinic. And I prefer the clinic, since it''s close by, and it''s uptown, away from her. She doesn''t even drive in the northern part of the city anyway. Shed rather get shit from the grocery store. Chapter 3: Rabies Shot Anyone? The next morning, my whole body ached; but I had to force myself to get up. We NEEDED medicine! I forced my aching body down the stairs, and searched through the couch cushions for the car keys. I grabbed them and took Ro''s car, out only transportation. I left her a text, telling her I''m using the car and I''ll be back soon. I drove down the street and waited for my turn at a stoplight. Once I arrived, I locked the car and hurried on inside. No one but me was around, of course the cashier was there. I searched the shelves for colds and flus. I found myself coughing as I looked around. I turned and looked at the lady at the counter, she looked at me with wide eyes. What? I walked up to her and asked if there were any common cold remedies. But she didn''t answer me, she only stood there, frozen. Afraid. For what? Why was she scared? Suddenly, someone from behind me was coughing and hacking. I whipped around, and a man was on his hands and knees coughing until he threw up. I raced over to him. This text was taken from Royal Road. Help the author by reading the original version there. "Oh my God! Are you okay, sir?" The man looked up and hissed as he lunged at me. He slammed me down on the hardwood floor. He was clutching my face, trying to pull me closer to him. He opened and shut his mouth like he wanted to bite me. I panicked, pushing him off me. I cried for help, but the lady just stood there. Way to be a good employee. I think to myself. The maniac that tried to bite my face was coming at me again, but this time I dodged, him missing me by an inch. I found myself going to the shelves and pulled the board out, the bottles dropped to the floor and glass jars broke. With the board in my hand, I was ready to swing as the crazed man attempted to lunge at me again. I swung the board on his face, knocking him to the ground. As I turned to the lady again to bark at her, she wasn''t there anymore...this time, she was going out the front door. I followed her and ran outside. She turns around and locks the door. I turn to her and was about to start yelling at her for not helping me, but she backed away as if I was too a maniac, and ran away from me. What the fuck was going on? Realizing I didn''t grab the medicine, I growled as I decided to go back home. There''s GOT to be a pharmacy nearby. And what was up with that guy? Did he have rabies or something? And why was that lady scared of me? She was acting like I was going to attack her and eat her face too! Something weird is going on in this city. First, it was the news warning of the end of the human population, second it''s the sirens, and now there''s a crazy fucker locked up in a pharmacy. There''s a part of me that''s starting to wonder if the news was right this time. If this is the end of the world, what''s happening? And how did it begin? How will it end? I needed to do some digging.
