《Overpowered life of a Drako Tamer》 1 Prologue "They say that a great war ravaged the land so long age, humans and there weapons destroyed mountains. Humans cut every tree, turned the water black and the clouds ruthless. Humans had destroyed their world and even after they knew that it could be saved continued their idiotic fighting." Elias sat at a desk in front of the old man as he lectured. Although Elias was young he had an aptitude to remember even the slightest details. But because of this he forgot the little and important things. "After so much destruction the continent was at its break, and a last ditch effort a group of people made a plea of the world. They asked it forgiveness even though they knew that they had not deserved it. That was when the Drako came into our existence." At the sound of the word Drako a small creature fluttered into the hut through a window. The creature had the head of a cat and the small winged body of a bee. It landed on Elias''s desk and stretched out it''s six paws and laid down with a small meow. Elias attention drawn to the little creature stroked it''s furry head. Jahrico sighed at his small friend. "And there you go distracting my student again. With this new foe came the birth of magic, the manipulation of elements. The five great heroes were the first to use these magics. Elias, what are the four core elements?" "Earth, water, Wind, and Nature right?" "Very good boy, now why are these the core elements?" "Because they were used by the heroes to reform the continent." "Yes, after the Five Heroes along with their beast stopped the war and reconstructed and healed the land. The earth Drako reforming the earth, the water Drako cleaned the oceans, wind Drako rid the land of the pollution of war, nature Drako sprouted new forest and greenery, they also healed all the wounds of the people and Drako who fought. That is why they are called the Core Elements." "But Teacher, what about the others?" "Oh you mean Fire, Ice, Light, and Dark. and of course the all to rare Serpents or Dragons." -- "So are you enjoying my lectures Elias?" "Yes grandpa, my favorite things to learn about are the heroes and of the beast." The old man looked at the young boy and grinned. He reminded him of a man he once knew, the same love of learning. The old man held the door of his hut and motioned the boy to follow. As the two walked through the forest the same thing as always happened. Many drake followed and looked after the boy. As they walked many Drako either walked behind them or stayed close, as if they were protective of the child. One, a small mix of a squirrel and a bird perched on the boy''s shoulder, while another, a wolf with red fur walked closely by the boys side. They soon reached a ledge overlooking the sea. The waves crashing against the cliff echoed into a violent melancholy. He turned to the boy who was at the moment in awe of the setting sun. The old man got down on one knee to be more eye level to the boy. "Elias, you see the beauty of this world, the gift that was graciously given to humanity even after such atrocities. Do you want to protect it?" The boy although he was young and didn''t understand a lot of the things the man said did recognize one word, "Protect." As Jahrico explained the word Elias needed to say the sun had just reached the horizon. The young boy than stood at the edge of the cliff and held his hand over his heart. "I, Elias Stormbrew hereby acknowledge my duty. My duty to this world, it''s forest, it''s seas, and its sunsets. I swear upon my name, the name of my future beast and my soul, that I will protect this world to my last breath." "Elias Stormbrew, you are hereby accepted into the Knight of the Setting Sun. You will fulfill your oath and train in the art of magic and the sword. To protect your fellow knights, your fellow Beast, and your world. Turn!" Elias turned and looked at the old man who held out two items. A short sword, and a pendant. Elias took the sword and lowered his head. Jahrico then tied the pendant around his neck. "Elias you are still young, but your duty remains the same as any other human on this world, the duty to keep it protected and to sustain the beauty of the sunset." Elias unsheathed the sword and looked at its shining blade. In the blades reflection he saw the sun and his own Golden eyes. 2 Abilities unseen -2 years later.- "Concentrate on your form. No openings¡ good, good, now strike. Elias swung his sword with practiced ease. He looked on as the blade cut through the air creating a wave into the surrounding area in front of him. As he recovered from the cut he heard crashes in front of him. He saw five trees now on the ground, cut at their bases. "It seems I overdid it again huh." This was not the first time Elias "Overdid it." Ever since the first lessons Elias showed very inhuman abilities. No human without a beast connection could hope to even cut a single tree down like this. In fact what he did was completely superhuman. Jahrico, who has already seen great feats of strength by the young knight was still baffled by his abilities. "Very good Elias, very good. Your form was perfect. You are becoming a fine swordsman. But it seems that is all for today." The man turned and headed for his hut. As Elias rested on a freshly cut stump he saw lights and smoke come out of their little house, and at one point his teacher cursed in pain. After a little time had passed he came out holding a handful of gems. Jahrico held out his free palm and two chairs and a table came into existence. He sat on one and told Elias to do the same. "You know what these are correct, these are training gems. When a Drako focuses it''s magic, it can create crystals from its elements, these are used to test the affinity of a person. Simply hold one, point it in a direction and say a word that comes to mind." He set the eight crystals on the table. Elias reached for a Blue crystal. He picked it up and it glowed. "Ah a water affinity huh, I thought that would be yours. Please continue." As Elias thought of words he could use none seemed to be right. It seemed all the ones he chose had no meaning. Than one came to him, it seemed right, and so he used it. "Will!" After the word ''Will'' was uttered the crystal seemed to shake. A torrent of water rushed out from the crystal and completely soaked the trees he was aiming at. Surprised by what happened Elias quickly sat the stone down. He saw his mentor standing with his jaw dropped low. " Did I overdo it again?" "My boy, that was the most spectacular display I have ever seen, in all my years I have not seen such a strong attack from a Gemstone Testing. You are talented my boy, truly talented, all thanks to me no doubt." Jahrico closed his eyes with a smug smile on his face, whispering things under his breath. Coming back to reality he sat back down and cleared his throat. "It is rare for a person to have more than one affinity, but we test each crystal anyways. As Elias continued the test they discovered that he had an affinity to each of the elements, witch makes him one of ten people how have ever had such a skill. His attacks destroyed the tree line and earned him very angry looks from the Drako who was watching him. As he got to the last gem, a green one, it seemed that Jahrico has turned serious again. During Elias''s test he simply sat with a dumb grin on his face. Elias pointed the stone and closed his eyes. "Will!" As Elias waited for the explosion all he heard was silence. "Interesting, it seems you don''t have the Nature affinity. Wait." As he looked upon the wreckage of the test he was disappointed at himself for causing so much damage, it reminded him of the lectures about the war. As he grew depressed and mad at himself he heard Jahrico''s chair fall to the ground. As Elias looked up he saw the scorch makers and other damages he caused on the trees disappear and in their place newer, healthier trees stood. They were glowing and looked like they were in the peak of spring. Jahrico was now standing, not surprised or happy, but showed a face of a man lost in memory. "Elias, that is the second time I have seen this power." Elias saw tears start dripping off the mans grey beard. "I-I''m sorry I didn''t mean to make you cry I-" "No, no, I''m not sad, in fact I thank you. I thought I would never see this again. Cherish this Elias, Cherish it." More tears streamed down Jahrico''s face as he twisted a ring on his left ring finger. Elias got up and hugged him. The old man sobbed into his shoulder. Elias felt closer to Jahrico, not as a teacher but as his Grandfather. He was the closest thing to a family he has had. After a couple of minutes Jahrico patted him on the shoulder. "Thank you, Elias, for letting me see that. Now enough of this crying business, let''s have dinner. Tomorrow we begin magic lessons, because of your affinities you have a great deal of things to learn." As Elias watched the old man enter the hut he simply smiled and looked at the trees one of which had turned into an apple tree. He walked over and snagged two off the branch and headed for the hut to have dinner with his grandfather. As he walked he heard the old man humming a tune. 3 Elements and Magic: Magic in this world is determined by birth. Noble blood lines such as the one Jahrico comes from are more powerful then regular common births. But that can change with a beast connection. When a Tamer binds a Drako to his or her soul his magic is mixed with the magic of the Drako. As for affinity''s humans are born with an affinity to one or more of the 8 Elements, but it is very rare to have two and there is only one person in this current time can control 3...or more. They are as listed. Nature- The ability to control plants and healing magic. Few are born with the affinity and is considered very rare and sought for in a knight. It is considered one of the four Origin Elements and considered the second most powerful because of its powerful support roles. Earth- The ability to control the ground, a verily common affinity. It is considered a weaker element but only because the majority of it''s users do not use it to it''s fullest. Water- The ability to control liquids, this is an uncommon trait only found from those who are born in the Superbia Archipelago. However the name is just common, many powerful knights have been known to control other things like liquid metals and in rare and dark cases blood. Wind- This ability lets you control the movement of air. An instance of this is when Elias cuts down five trees with a single swing. It also been rumored that powerful knights could change the weather if they so chose. The next four are sub-variants. Unlike the four above who came to this world first, these came after the stabilization of the continent. They are also considered very powerful attack oriented magics. Ice- Because of this being so rare many do not know the heights of witch this power can rise to. It is considered the powerhouse of the four. Fire- Unlike the other three this is common place among most all humans. However, it being common does not make it weak, it is in fact one of the highest attack oriented magics. This is the signature magic of Jahrico, along with an unknown affinity. Light- Abilities from this magic have varied from attack, defensive, and support roles. It can control the light of the sun or other sources, from simple light in dark places or creating a beam of burning energy. This magic is also rather easy to infuse objects with, most retired knights with this affinity would make objects that harness light. Finally we arrive at dark magic. There are no known instances of this magic being used by humans, because of this very little is known about the magic. The one who reported such magic was Jahrico himself, but his studies had to many constituency flaws and so it was dropped by the Academy research team. It is rumored by many on the team that the magic could change or manipulate time, but it was just a theory. As for the Serpent or Dragon variant, this is not an affinity but something else entirely. It is the most rare with only 3 people known to have had such a Drako. One exist in the legends of the 5 heroes, and another exists in the time of Elias''s story. There is no clear tier in this world. Each magic can me controlled and manipulated to any extent. But rarity is another case. There are four groupings of magic, common, uncommon, rare, and the last group. This group holds Serpent and Darkness. Earth fire are on the common group. Wind, water, make up the uncommon group. As for rare Nature and light are in this grouping. This was an explanation of the magic of this world and to explain their uses and properties. The main reason I wanted to do a chapter like this was not to bore you with unnecessary story elements, and to clear up something that reader will see in the future. If it seems that Elias knows thing you don''t, its because of Jahricos teachings. In fact the information listed above would be what Jahrico taught Elias and his other students. If you are still confuse on how Drako change the magic of it''s tamer that will be explained in later chapters like this one. Please comment down below your questions and I will reach them in later bits. Thanks for reading the novel and surviving the boring nature of my writing. 4 An interesting new face. -6 years later- As Elias trained he saw that his mentor was in unusually high spirits that day. Eventual as his curiosity got the best of him he asked why. "Grandfather, why do you have that smug look for, don''t tell me your making me jump off the cliff again." "What, no, no that would be Wednesday... joking. No today is a very important day, in fact you don''t even know do you?" As Elias thought of what day it was he noticed the leafs begin to change into bright green. As he thought of spring time events he ran over many things. Celestial movements, migrations, possibly a visitor. "Ha, ha, my boy you are as clueless as ever, you must take a break from training on a day such as this. Besides, if a sixteen year old cant enjoy his birthdays whats the point in celebrating. It then hit Elias that it was his birthday. He had honestly forgotten and silently cursed at himself. "It seems I forgot this year as well, huh." "My lad, it runs in the family, trust me when I say this, Iv''e lost count myself." As they both laughed there was a howling in the distance. "Ohhh, It seems I lost track of time, hurry now go and wash up and put some good clothes on. We have company coming over later." Elias rushed into the cabin preparing for the night. Although he noticed something off about his teacher. There was something missing from his hand, he forgot about it as he searched for his good clothes and prepared his makeshift shower. Outside Jahrico looked down the path with a smile. "Yes, I believe he is ready to join the knights, what do you think... Lilith, Eric." When Elias got done shaving he put on one of his finer sets of clothes. He came out side to see his grand father had gone all out. He had prepared a fine dinner, enough for many people. There was turkey, chicken and even boar, along with many other sides. As he searched for his grandfather, which was no where to be found, he saw an older lady cross into the yard by the road. It was Myra, the witch, at least that was her title. She was actually a great healer with a Nature Affinity, behind her followed her Drako, called Mir. Mir had the body of a deer, a head of an eagle along with its wings on its back. It''s back legs were also that of an eagle. When Mir saw Elias it let out a little sound and trotted to him. Swoo swoo "If it isn''t little Eli, seems your of good health, he he." Elias couldn''t help but smile at the old hag, it was thanks to her that he was even hear at all, and there is no telling how many illnesses she cured him of before he could use his healing abilities. He ran and hugged the old woman. "It''s good to see you too." "Now where is that sack of old bones, I need to talk to him. Oh, happy birthday Sonny, it seems like this will be one of our last dinners for awhile huh. Well see here I can still out drink ya." As they laughed, even Mir joined in. It sounded a little wonky. though. Swoo-oo Swoo-oo Elias then caught his grandfather further down the path. A dark long haired man was following him. As Elias saw the man there gazes caught each others. His golden eyes against the mans bright red ones. It was not an Ominous gaze, but a prideful one. The eyes of a warrior is how Elias would described them. "Ahh, Myra, you were ahead of us, it''s good to-" The old woman had shot towards Jahrico at lightning speed and kicked him in his shin. The old man toppled over dramatically. "Ahh you hag, Elias hel-." Elias had created two fireballs in his hands and looked down at his grandfather menacingly. "What did you do." "Mercy!" After thirty minutes of torture from Myra, Jahrico had finally coughed up the money for the drinks that he "Borrowed" from her. At the table the four were eating, but the eyes of the dark haired man was still fixed on Elias. Mir caught a piece of chicken that Myra tossed into the air. "Oh I forgot to introduce you haven''t I, this is-" "No its fine J, I can do that. Hello Elias my name is Lucius, professor at Wellsprings Academy, and old friend of your father and grand father." The man who had not smiled once was now grinning at Elias. "You knew my father, did you and him go to school together." "Yes, me and him were best friends, well when I say friends more like... enemy''s with the same skill. Us and your mother were the top students of our class and so formed a friendship through battle." Lucius took a drink of his wine and another bite of turkey. "Your father asked me long ago that if I wanted too, I could crash his kids birthdays. So now I''m doing just that." Lucius got up and walked into the middle of the yard and threw the cloak he had on to the ground. He was bare chested, scars on his chest made the man look even more intimidating. "Now lets see your skills, boy." Elias who was took back by the sudden request recoiled. What this man was asking for was a fight. Inside Elias had mixed feelings, but something else spoke up out of him. He knew a strong opponent when he saw one and some sort of pride sneaked it''s way onto his face, turning his usual grin into a smirk. Elias walked from the table and into the middle of the yard in front of the man. Loosening his tie, his smirk worked it''s way onto Lucius as well. Lucius had seen that face on someone else before, the one man that could give him a challenge in this boring world, it made him all the more exited. "So you fought my dad and mom, well, get ready the best of both worlds." 5 Friendship through Battle As the two stared at each other there were no sounds. No birds stirred and not a single bug noise, as if they could sense the coming battle. Out of the tree line came the she wolf with red fur, moving into the yard and stared at Lucius. Elias came to call the female Drako Ani, she was protective of the boy and her glare was entirely on the new visitor. Mir was also in the same mindset as the wolf, and she was glaring at the man as well. Jahrico and Myra simply sat and watched the two, continuing to eat and sip their wine. They had seen enough young ones fight to know where this was heading. "Seeing as if no one starts the match you will continuously to stare at each other till your eyes fall out. I will set the ground rules. Firsts, no breaking my hut, our food, or the Booze, second; don''t cause any serious damage to the other or kill them. Thirdly don''t destroy my Booze. That is all... on my count you will start the match. Are you ready?" Their silence gave him his answer. "Three!" Elias knew it would not be easy, Lucius left no openings. The mans defense was impregnable. "Two!" Lucius new not to underestimate the son his rival. If it was anything he knew about Eric, it was his tenacity. "One!" A full frontal assault, the mans eyes were sunk into Elias''s soul. No tricks, a full all out offensive. Elias''s smirk grew even more as he got into position. Lucius''s smile grew along with the boys, memories flooded him of his first fight with Eric. "Fight!" The two men dissipated in a flash of speed each dashing right to each other. And then their fight had begun. The two men traded attacks at each other. A punch, a kick, other moves that were to fast to be determined. The speed of the two fighters were super human. With each attack the other would block or evade. Because of their speed it seemed they were multiple sets of them fighting in the yard, but they were just afterimages. They were actually creating a breeze in each direction because of their flurry of attacks. As Elias evaded a Kick from Lucius he knew that if he didn''t try anything they would continue like this for as long as they could both stand on two feet. That was when magic came into play. At first it was Lucius who was using his wind affinity to increase the speed of his movements, but he also put his hands on fire as to cause a distraction. It succeed at catching Elias off guard and Elias was kicked in the abdomen. A gust of wind was seen from the impact and Elias was sent flying backwards. He rolled a couple times and coughed up a bit of blood. "Come boy, you are not done yet I hope." As he rose up he wiped the blood away from his mouth revealing his smile even more sinister than before. Lucius had not felt this rush in so long and his smile reflected the boys. They began their onslaught once more, but Elias had begun using magic as well. The gust they created was more of a raging wind wind now, trees swayed and branches broke. Elias coated his entire body in wind and his hands in water. As he attacked water slung from his hand and to the ground. Lucius had now gone on the defensive because he was tasked not only with his wind magic but now he had to care for footing. Elias had thought of this before hand and already figured out how to bypass it. At each step Elias took he swapped the ground out for new fresh dirt. As Elias continued the onslaught of attacks Myra and Jahrico were continuing to eat and drink happily. The two Drako watched the moves of Elias carefully. Soon Elias had a plan. He erected walls of stone on all sides of Lucius and cornered him. Lucius was surprised by that as he only saw two of Elias''s affinity''s. And no human prior to his knowledge had more than two. With his back against the wall Elias saw his chance. He focused all his wind magic on his arms and legs. As Lucius struggled to block and evade the speed at witch Elias was attacking grew faster and faster till all you could see of him was a mess of hands and feet. Lucius was taking several hits. After awhile the walls collapsed from the strain of attacks. The two were seen standing facing each other both panting with an unimaginably evil grins. Elias shirt was destroyed as he dogged Lucius''s attacks and was bare. Lucius was worse for ware, he thought he had two broken ribs and a shattered femur. Each began laughing between pants, it was Lucius who spoke next. "You know, hah hah, they tested me to be one of the fastest mem in the country, hah hah, but it seems Iv''e gotten old. Eric, hah, would be proud of you, hah hah, you''d give him a run for his money." "Thank you, hah hah hah, that was the most fun Iv''e ever had, a real challenge, hah hah" "There is just one thing I have to say, Experience trumps natural talent any day of the week." "Hows that?" As the words left his mouth Lucius dissipated and the next thing Elias saw was blacknes. Lucius had chopped him in the back of the neck, causing him to fall limp into the mans arms. Lucius laid him on the ground and both Drako were already next to him. Swooo Swoo Ani laid a paw on his chest and then laid her head down, lowly growing at Lucius. Lucius limped back to the table and sat down, taking sip of wine. "He is Eric''s kid, the grin was all I needed. Old man tell me everything you know of him, abilities, tricks, nothing left out." 6 Respec When Elias woke up it was morning. As he remembered the fight from last night he remembered the thrill he felt. As a grin worked it''s way on the young mans face it was erased by Ani as she began sniffing his face. Swoo Swoo Mir was also next to him on the bed. The three seemed to fit perfectly. He moved the reluctant Mir from his place on the bed and began to put on fresh clothes when something caught his eye on the dining table. A set of clothes were already set out and a note was laying on top of them. He flipped it open and read out loud. "Dear Eli, that was an amazing fight, I know you can handle yourself well. Lucius is a good man and still grieves for the loss of your father. Help heal that wound if only a little. I made these for you, they are by far my best work. You will make great things happen I know it. Yours truly, Myra." Elias walked out of the house. He wore a white shirt, a black leather jacket with a crest of a storm cloud on the right shoulder. The left arm of the jacket held metal reinforcements extending down the arm. The jacket extended down to his knees giving a more cape feel. His pants were blue and reinforced down each leg the same way the arm was. Despite it''s appearance it was unimaginably light. As well to the lightness it was also cooling, despite the warmth of the sun. It was quiet possibly the finest crafted jacket in the kingdom, and he believed it was on par with the lords in the capital city. Granny Myra had gone all out making this for him and he thanked her silently. Mir walked out of the cabin seemingly admiring him and gave him a playful nudge. Lucius was talking to his grandpa sitting at the table the remnants of his party spread about the ground. Lucius was smiling now, it seems he was able to let out some steam last night. Lucius looked up at Elias and his smile grew even wider. He acted like a different man than he had the night before. "Aw your awake, I may have put in a little too much force in that chop last night, sorry. Besides that, you fight like your father. He would always play tricks like that, and he would always spend a night in the infirmary because of it." He gave a small chuckle, it seems that Lucius was good friends with his father. Elias felt a small pain in his chest. He had not known his father or mother, but regularly visited his mother''s grave. He would spend long sleepless nights thinking about who they were and what it would have been like to know them. ""You knew my father?" ""Knew him, he was something like a brother. We met in the academy and fought every day until we could read each others minds. After our second year, we always ended in a draw." The man got up from the table and walked up to Elias and held out his hand. Elias took it and a small vision flashed threw his head, two men shaking hands in the middle of an arena with grins and dirt on their faces. Shaking it off as his imagination he let go. And right then locking eyes with the man he realized what the look in his eyes were last night, it was sadness and a deep grievance. "Oh, and here is your present, I don''t only dish out punches you know." He threw a leather satchel with a single shoulder strap. It was rather plain besides a red strip going down the middle. It seemed to him to have very little space, enough for a couple books at most. He opened it up and instead of seeing the bottom of the bag instead saw nothing. He stuck his hand inside, then his arm. "It''s a bag of holding, you can shove as many things in there as you desire and can pull them out at a thought. Although I suggest making a list of what you put in so as to not forget about things." He thanked him and placed a stick inside and pulled it back out clearly amused. Jahrico got up from his seat at the table and grew serious. "Lucius, he is ready." The man pulled out a small metal object from his pocket and held it out to Elias. It was a small pin with the appearance of a bird with it''s wings outstretched. Yes, he has passed my test. He is accepted into the academy, and shall become the successor of the Stormbrew name."
